Jeffrey Pierce is returning to The Last of Us franchise, but not as his original character.
As reported by Deadline, Pierce, who voiced Tommy in both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II video games, has been cast as a recurring character in the upcoming HBO series based on the Sony PlayStation franchise. However, this time he will not be playing Tommy, but a character named Perry, one of the rebels located in a quarantine zone.
Season 1 of HBO’s The Last of Us consists of 10 episodes and adapts the storyline from the original game, based on a screenplay written by Naughty Dog game developer and series co-creator Neil Druckman and Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. Pierce will appear opposite Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie. Tommy, Joel’s brother, will be played by Gabriel Luna. Luna recently announced that the series began production in July, with a photo of himself and his co-stars Pascal and Nico Parker, who will portray Joel’s daughter Sarah.
Pierce is not the only voice actor from The Last of Us franchise to return for the HBO series. Merle Dandridge, who provided vocals and motion-capture for Marlene in both the original game and its sequel, will reprise her role in HBO’s The Last of Us. Marlene serves as the head of the Fireflies, a resistance movement in a struggle for freedom against an oppressive military regime.
Released by Naughty Dog in 2013, The Last of Us follows a smuggler named Joel who is tasked with leading Ellie, a 14-year-old girl immune to the Cordyceps virus that has ravaged humanity for nearly twenty years, across the post-apocalyptic United States. Seven years later, a sequel titled The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020, going on to win the 2020 Game of the Year award.
HBO’s The Last of Us does not yet have a release date, but both games, The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II are currently available in the PlayStation store.
