Eric Kripke, showrunner for Amazon Studios’ The Boys, recently gave an update about the progress of Season 3.
“It’s a real shot in the arm,” Kripke told The Wrap. “We’re exactly at that point in the season where everyone is just exhausted.” Kripke added that they started filming two new episodes last week that they need to finish, explaining, “And they are always long hours and COVID has made it the hardest production year for any of us, certainly for me.”
The showrunner also dished on hearing news of the series’ Emmy nominations while in the midst of filming the new season in Canada. “So I just saw Jack [Quaid] just sent me video of Karl [Urban] announcing to the crew that we [were nominated],” Kripke said. “And everyone was just so excited. I think it’s a real shot in the arm and can really give everyone some validation as they’re limping into the final stretch.”
In the same interview, Kripke said “it’s been awesome” to reunite with Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles on the Season 3 set for The Boys. “I mean, I love the guy so much. And just to have him read my words again is such a treat,” Kripke said. “I mean, on the first day of dailies, I reached out to him. Funny enough, his very first scene as Soldier Boy was taking place in a shitty motel room. And so he’s in this shitty motel room reading my words. And I just was like, ‘This is great. This feels like coming home.'”
It was announced on July 13 that Season 2 of The Boys received five Emmy nominations. In addition to landing a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, The Boys was also nominated for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the Season 2 finale (“What I Know”).
The Boys Season 2 was also recognized with four nominations at the HCA TV Awards. In addition to competing in the Best Streaming Series, Drama category, Karl Urban (as Billy Butcher) was nominated for Best Actor, Aya Cash (as Stormfront) for Best Actress and Giancarlo Esposito (as Stan Edgar) for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Series, Drama.
Season 3 of The Boys has been repeatedly teased by Kripke and The Boys‘ official social media accounts, the newest season of the Amazon Studios series has yet to receive a release date.
