Eva Levante is once again at the Tower to herald the return of Destiny 2‘s Solstice of Heroes. During the event, players return to the European Ariel Zone (EAZ), and like last year, they’ll take down as many bosses as possible before hunting down treasure caches. With a few minor tweaks to make the activity more streamlined, every player can jump in and earn some new loot.
Destiny 2 has brought back the Solstice of Heroes and its accompanying activity in the EAZ. The event is free to all players and runs from July 6 to August 3. All participating Guardians will receive a new upgradeable armor set and a new legendary shotgun.
Players logging into Destiny 2 can visit the now-decorated Tower to see Eva and join in on the Solstice of Heroes. An introductory quest nets Guardians a set of the new gear they’ll be working towards upgrading while the event is running. Each piece of equipment has a different set of objectives that must be completed before upgrading to its final form. On top of the armor, players will also receive a new legendary shotgun: Compass Rose.
The EAZ activity drops three Guardians into the EAZ, where they’ll face off against a random enemy faction. With five minutes on the clock, players are responsible for eliminating the mini-bosses that spawn in random locations across the map. The mini-bosses will appear two at a time, rewarding teams that divide and conquer. Alongside these foes, Prismatic Taken enemies will appear occasionally and can also be defeated for additional rewards. After the five minutes is up, a full-size boss will appear, and Guardians will have to eliminate it before entering the final phase of the EAZ.
Once the boss is defeated, players are rewarded a number of caches equal to the mini-bosses and Prismatic Taken they defeated before toppling the boss. Like the mini-bosses, the caches will appear in random locations. Luckily, icons revealing the caches’ positions have been added since last year to help players locate their rewards. In addition to this update, the map is now dotted with glowing blue spots that propel Guardians into the air, making traversing the intricate area much more manageable.
Each day, the EAZ will highlight a different sub-class or element. Players using a matching sub-class or defeating enemies with weapons of the same element will generate elemental orbs. When enough of these orbs are collected, Guardians will receive a powerful buff, allowing mini-bosses to be taken out that much more quickly. Additionally, for those trying to upgrade their new event armor, many of the challenges revolve around collecting these orbs.
Thankfully, as Guardians begin work on getting some new gear for Armor Synthesis, upgrades will become available through Eva to make the whole process go faster. Players will be able to increase the speed at which they progress their new armor, as well as tilt odds in their favor when opening the Solstice package rewards from the event. There’s also an exotic Ghost Shell and a new Emblem players can earn if they put in some work. These rewards can be earned, but there’s a whole assortment of further goodies available for Silver (real money) in the Eververse store — including an Ornament of the Solstice armor that glows according to the player’s equipped subclass.
The return of the Solstice of Heroes will provide Destiny 2 players with plenty to do while they finish out the Fallen-centric Season of the Splicer. There’s new gear to grab, and though it’ll take some work to turn it into its finished form, it’s a welcome and fun distraction until Season 15 drops alongside long-awaited cross-play.
