Hugh Jackman has added fuel to the speculation that he will reprise his role as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The reason for the Wolverine/MCU speculation comes after the actor shared fan art of Wolverine by BossLogic on his Instagram Stories. Almost 24 hours later, Jackman uploaded an old photo of himself posing next to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
The BossLogic artwork features Wolverine extending his claws against an all-black background. His right arm is barely visible, with the only light reflecting off his signature claws. Almost the same time Jackman shared the photo with Kevin Feige, he also uploaded a message regarding the passing of Superman and Lethal Weapon filmmaker Richard Donner. Jackman called Donner “one of the most talented, courageous, cheeky, funny, loyal directors to have ever made movies.
Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox gave the studio rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four film franchises. While no official plans have yet to be revealed, Feige confirmed Marvel Studios does have plans for the X-Men and mutants at 2019’s Comic-Con International.
Though Jackman has stated on many occasions that he has retired from the role of Wolverine following 2017’s Logan, it hasn’t stopped fans and even other actors from speculating on his return. Jackman’s performance as the Adamantium hero is one of the highlights of Fox’s X-Men movies. However, nowadays, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have had to settle for a social media feud instead of a crossover between Deadpool and Wolverine.
