Sidekicks have long been a part of comics, but the Big Two do them differently. While DC often does teenage sidekicks, Marvel teams their respected roster of heroes with older sidekicks, ones who get more spotlight thanks to their association with the senior hero. A great example of this is the Falcon and Captain America.
Another thing that Marvel does a lot is team up villains with heroes- with the villain sometimes switching sides and becoming a hero themselves. While the Marvel Universe is full of intimidating villains, there are a lot of them who would actually make great sidekicks for heroes, perhaps even leaving their evil ways behind.
10 Bullseye Would Be A Great Sidekick For An Anti-Hero
Bullseye may not seem like a good match for any kind of hero but that’s just not true. Bulleye is used to working for people as a mercenary, so he’s decent in a junior position. He just likes to fight and kill people and he’s gotten quite good at it as he can use just about anything as a weapon.
Teaming Bullseye up with a hero who doesn’t mind a body count, like Wolverine or maybe even the Punisher, would work out pretty well. Bullseye can work with others as long as he enjoys what he’s doing and with a hero who has no qualms with people dying, he’d fit right in.
9 Moonstone Has Proven How Well She Works With The Heroes
Moonstone was a long-time member of the Masters of Evil before joining up with Baron Zemo’s Thunderbolts. Moonstone would realize she liked being a hero better and led the group when they broke away from Zemo. She’s ever since has mostly been a member of the Thunderbolts, with varying levels of villainy. More of a reformed villain than a hero, Moonstone would be a great sidekick.
Moonstone likes the adulation of being a superhero and is pretty powerful and skilled. Seeing her take her heroism more seriously would be cool and if she teamed up with someone like Captain Marvel, Thor, or Iron Man she could hit the next level.
8 Loki Is Just So Much Fun To Play-Off Heroes
Loki is one of the greatest villains in the history of the Marvel Universe but in recent years has been more and more active on the heroic side of things. While making him a sidekick for his brother Thor would just eventually lead to Loki going back to evil, teaming him with other heroes would be great.
Loki and Wolverine have worked together in the past, Spider-Man and Loki would be a fun team, and Deadpool and Loki seem like the greatest partnership ever as there would be so much potential for entertainment. Loki’s status as the God of Mischief doesn’t mean he has to be against the good guys- he can bring his brand of trickery to bear against villainy just as easily.
7 Whirlwind Is A Forgotten Mutant
With the establishment of Krakoa, all mutants have a new lease on life, even the villains. One mutant villain who hasn’t really been seen on the island yet is Whirlwind. Using his spinning powers to rob banks and fight the Avengers, Whirlwind has always been a bit of a C-lister, which makes him perfect to become a sidekick to one of the many X-Men on Krakoa.
Whirlwind has never really been about trying to take over the world or anything; he’s more in it for the prestige and monetary gain. With his monetary needs taken care of by Krakoan wealth, joining up with one of the many mutant heroes as a sidekick would net him respect and maybe even show him the grass is greener on the other side.
6 Toad Is The Perfect Sidekick
Toad has made a business of being a sidekick but usually only to villains. In recent years, he’s been played as more of a pathetic sort, the butt of jokes and an object of derision to all. Toad has always been a pretty good sidekick to villains but most of them treated him terribly. With the right hero, though, he could grow and become something better.
Toad’s powers are actually a lot better than they seem. With a hero willing to put the work in with the mutant, Toad could become a formidable partner and make a better name for himself than he did during his time as a villain.
5 Flag Smasher’s Anarchic Zeal Could Make Him A Great Hero Sidekick
Flag Smasher’s whole thing is anarchy; he wants to break down the borders of the world and make people as free as possible. The only problem with his vision is his methods. Teaming him up with a hero could show him that his goals are extreme but his zeal for freedom can be put to good use.
Working with the right hero could show Flag-Smasher that fighting against the corruption inherent in governing systems is better than just reducing everything to anarchic city-states squabbling over resources. Flag-Smasher could become a great hero with the right mentor teaching him and pointing out the errors in his belief system.
4 Kraven The Hunter Is More About The Thrill Of The Fight Than Being Evil
Kraven the Hunter is an interesting villain in that the only that keeps him a villain is his obsession with beating Spider-Man. He doesn’t need money and he doesn’t care about taking over the world, he just wants to prove himself as the best hunter ever. So, making the switch to hunting villains wouldn’t be too far of a stretch.
Kraven always wants to get better and find tougher targets to hunt, so teaming him up with a hero would work out pretty well. Kraven can work with others and his variety of skills would make him a great partner for any hero he teamed up with.
3 Doctor Octopus Has Had A Taste Of Heroism
Doctor Octopus’s time as the Superior Spider-Man proved that he could do very well as a hero, but he does sometimes need someone around to keep him grounded. This is why partnering him up with another hero would be great; they could keep him on the straight and narrow, showing him how to use his skills in the best way for heroism.
Ock is a formidable person in general- he’s smart and tough. Becoming a partner to a hero would get him the prestige and adulation he always craved and prove to the world that he could be great even when he isn’t in Peter Parker’s body.
2 Sabretooth Is A Better Team Player Than Most People Imagine
Sabretooth is one of Wolverine’s greatest foes and while he doesn’t seem like he would be a good sidekick, he’d actually be pretty good at it. Sabretooth knows how to work with others- he’s been doing it for a very long time. Much like anything else with Sabretooth, as long as he’s getting rewarded and not held back, he’s down for whatever.
While this mercenary attitude doesn’t seem conducive to partnerships, Sabretooth could work with a rich hero who doesn’t have a lot of qualms about bodily harm to their foes. Sabretooth is smart, skilled, and tough and would work well with the right hero.
1 Taskmaster’s Mercenary Outlook Means He Could Work Well With Most Heroes
Taskmaster doesn’t have any deeply held beliefs beyond making money. This mercenary outlook means he’s not really evil, per se, just on the wrong side. Getting him on the right side would be as easy as paying him for a bit and then showing him that being a hero was more rewarding than being a villain.
Taskmaster just wants a better place in the world, so teaming him up with a hero who can show him just what being a hero is all about and how it could benefit him has the chance to turn him into a hero. As a mercenary, he’s also used to doing what clients say, so working with someone else wouldn’t be that difficult for him.
