DCEU Theory: Harley Quinn’s Superpower Is Luck | CBR

Harley Quinn has become one of the central faces of the DC Extended Universe films after starring in Suicide Squad and her own spinoff film, Birds of Prey. She’s back in action in the upcoming sequel, The Suicide Squadwhere again she will return as a member of the team. Some members of the Suicide Squad have very obvious powers, like King Shark who is half-shark, but some are more subtle. Thanks to a Reddit theory, there may be reason to believe that Harley Quinn is one of those members with hidden powers. The theory suggests that despite there being no mention of it, Harley actually has the power of luck.

The theory references the character of Domino, who appears in Deadpool 2 and explains that Harley Quinn could have similar powers to her. In Deadpool 2, Domino says that things just seem to work out for her because of luck, and she always ends up where she’s supposed to be as a result. She is also shown surviving impossible situations that spell certain death for the rest of her teammates. The theory points out that the same things can be said for the DCEU’s Harley Quinn, which therefore means they could have the same powers.

In Suicide Squad, Harley continually survives intense fights and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Most of her team also survives the fights, so maybe the reason for their success is actually their teamwork. But if the theory is correct, Harley survives because she is lucky.

The Reddit post then leads into examples from Birds of Prey, expanding the scope into the entire DCEU instead of just a single movie. For example, Harley breaks Black Mask’s driver’s legs, which coincidentally leads to Black Canary becoming his driver instead. This in turn helps to put the whole film into motion in terms of the Birds of Prey coming together to protect Cass. This puts Harley in the right place at the right time, just like Domino said happens to her.

Harley even admits she’s lucky in Bird of Prey. Just after she loses her sandwich and is cornered by Renee Montoya, the former driver of Black Mask and Ralph Murray – the brother of the man eaten by her hyena, Bruce – she explains that her escape was “dumb luck.” The theory implies that in this moment, Harley is admitting that luck is actually her superpower. However, within the context of the film, it is likely just a joke, as her statement follows immediately after her voiceover implies that her actions were actually methodical and well planned instead of instinctive and a little silly. So the definitive proof presented in the theory is actually not as ironclad as the Reddit post implies.

In short, there isn’t any explicit proof that Harley Quinn has any canonical superpowers. Nevertheless, it is a compelling idea, considering the extreme situations she has found herself in thus far and how she manages to not only survive, but thrive each time.
