My Little Pony Movie Voice Cast Adds Vanessa Hudgens, James Marsden & More

High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens is heading to Equestria in My Little Pony: A New Generation.

According to Variety, Hudgens will lead the voice cast of the film as Sunny Starscout, an idealistic young pony seeking to cure her world of its paranoia and mistrust. Along for the ride are Kimiko Glenn (Orange Is the New Black) and James Marsden (Sonic the Hedgehog). Glenn will voice Izzy Moonbow, while Marsden will portray Hitch Trailblazer.

A sequel to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, My Little Pony: A New Generation was supposed to be released in theaters on Sept. 24 by Paramount and Hasbro’s Entertainment One. However, the studios sold the film to Netflix, where it will premiere on its original theatrical release date. However, Hasbro still maintains the Chinese distribution rights, meaning the film could see a theatrical release in the Middle Kingdom.

In the new movie, the pony world of Equestria has lost its magic. (GASP!) Friendship and Harmony have been replaced by paranoia and mistrust, and Ponies now live separated by species. Sunny – a feisty and idealistic young Earth Pony – is convinced there’s still hope for this divided world… but her slightly misguided and often hilarious efforts to change hearts and minds have led to her being branded a misfit. When Sunny befriends a lost Unicorn named Izzy, who wanders innocently into the Earth Pony town of Maretime Bay, the town has had enough. Izzy and Sunny must embark on an epic adventure that will include a daring jewel heist, outrageous conspiracy theories, elaborate musical numbers, and the world’s cutest flying Pomeranian. Their adventures will take them to faraway lands and force them to challenge the status quo by facing their fears and making new friends out of old enemies. The world Sunny has dreamed of her entire life could finally become a reality as Sunny and her newfound friends fight to prove that even LITTLE ponies can make a BIG difference.

Directed by Robert Cullen and Jose Ucha, with a screenplay from Gillian Berrow and Tim Sullivan, My Little Pony: A New Generation stars Vanessa Hudgens as Sunny Starscout, Kimiko Glenn as Izzy Moonbow, James Marsden as Hitch Trailblazer, Sofia Carson as Pipp Petals, Liza Koshy as Zipp Storm, Elizabeth Perkins as Phyllis, Jane Krakowski as Queen Haven, Ken Jeong as Sprout, Phil LaMarr as Alphabittle and Michael McKean as Argyle. The film premieres on Netflix on Sept. 24.
