WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 11 of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, “End-of-Terminus Exams / Girls’ Talk,” now streaming on Crunchyroll.
The “Evil Iruma” arc of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun has brought out the heartthrob in Iruma, so much so that even some of the male students at Babyls are swooning over him. Those closest to Iruma have always known about his charm, especially Ameri and Clara — though evil Iruma probably helped strengthen these romantic feelings.
Given the harem that’s been slowly building up around Iruma, it’s easy to assume that Episode 11’s tea party involving all of the girls from the Misfit Class and Ameri would be a shuraba (a scene of carnage), and that assessment is partially correct, though probably not in the way you’d think. In fact, what emerges could have spelled trouble for Iruma — and he has no idea.
The real scene of carnage actually starts at the end-of-terminus exam, where half of the Misfit Class is on the verge of failing and losing their ranks. Luckily, their cramming worked and everyone passes the exam, including Iruma. A few of the students even ranked up because of their good grades, especially Allocer who skipped from Alef(1) to Gimel(3) because his score is the highest in their grade.
As class divides into gendered groups, with the boys going to karaoke or screeching room, so Iruma has to miss his weekly manga reading session with Ameri. Clara knows about this so she drags Ameri to the girls’ tea party.
There are only three girls in the Misfit Class, Clara, Elizabetta and Keroli, and they usually don’t get to talk to let alone even see the student council president — they are misfits, after all. Although everyone except for Clara seems normal, Keroli stays in the class because she wants to hide her idol identity, but the reason for Elizabetta’s choice are unclear.
The talk starts off with innocuous questions, like the brand of shampoo they use, which, surprisingly, reflects their backgrounds: Ameri uses a high-end brand called “Devian,” while Keroli uses the brand “Lovelica,” which she is the spokesperson for. The truest to form is, of course, Clara, who just uses soap for everything.
But the talk quickly starts to go into dangerous territory when the topic of romance is brought up by Elizabetta. Ameri has already realized her feelings for Iruma, so this is a very touchy subject, especially when Clara just bursts out her feelings without hesitation. Ameri now sees Clara as a romantic rival, but even Keroli seems to have a crush on Iruma since evil Iruma looked out for her during the last arc.
It soon becomes apparent that the girls aren’t really experienced in love. Clara is too childish to realize what romance actually means, but she does place Iruma in a special place in her heart and blushes when she thinks about potentially marrying him. On the other hand, Keroli’s idol persona makes her completely ignorant about how to pursue love, because guys usually automatically fawn over her.
The discussion soon goes out of hand when everyone starts to fight about their ideal marriages and husbands. What they don’t realize is that this is down to the effect of the tea that Ameri brought to the party, called “relax tea,” which makes people lower their defenses and spill out truths in order to relieve their stress. This is a very dangerous drink for people full of secrets, such as Iruma. In fact, Ameri originally prepared this tea for Iruma’s reading session, so he actually just narrowly avoided being exposed as a human in Demon School.
But the real danger of Episode 11’s girl’s talk is something that could be easily missed: Elizabetta never revealed anything about herself. She didn’t talk about her shampoo nor her romantic relationships; instead, just leading the conversation into various sensitive subjects and letting the other girls react. Elizabetta is clearly a master at this sort of thing — able to draw out people’s secrets without putting herself out there, and yet, few would notice what she’s really doing. More than this, Elizabetta’s power of persuasion could be the real reason why she ended up in the Misfit Class in the first case.
