Loki Theory: The TVA Will Be Destroyed by Its Own Agents | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Loki Episode 4, “The Nexus Event,” now streaming on Disney+.

The most recent episode of Loki shows the cracks in the Time Variance Authority, and it may be too late to fill them. There has been an air of uncertainty in previous episodes in whether or not the TVA is as noble as they appear on the outside. These suspicions were further proved when Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) confirms to Loki (Tom Hiddleston) that the TVA consists of variants. So the TVA’s defeat may not come from Loki or Sylvie but from within their own ranks instead.

All TVA agents believe that the Time-Keepers created them with the sole purpose of serving and maintaining the Sacred Timeline. This consists of resetting branched realities known as Nexus Events and pruning any variants out of existence. But when Hunter C-20 is found after being enchanted by Sylvie, she learns the TVA’s closely kept secret about its agents. Because of her discovery and unwillingness to move on from her past life, Judge Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) has her pruned. The rapid dissension within one TVA hunter serves as the first hint at how the organization can be defeated.

There are two other instances where variants immediately turn on the TVA after learning the truth. The first comes from Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), who — after being enchanted — sees her past life and demands Sylvie show her again. The second is with Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), who took some time to convince because he has always been a loyal agent and friend to Renslayer. Sadly, upon discovering the truth, he is quickly cornered by Renslayer and pruned. As Sylvie and Loki are taken to the Time-Keepers to be erased, Hunter B-15 crashes the event and helps the two break free before being knocked out.

Since B-15 wasn’t pruned and has already proven to be one of the most capable Minutemen in the TVA, she could start a rebellion within the organization. With Sylvie in the facility and Renslayer defeated, all she and B-15 have to do is awaken the other variants. Then, with a small army of turncoats, B-15 and Sylvie could lead the charge to take down whoever is truly running the TVA.

This plan would also work two-fold because after Renslayer prunes Loki, he learns that he isn’t actually erased from existence but taken to another point in time where other Loki variants reside. If he survived the pruning along with the other Lokis, it’s possible other variants also survived, including Mobius. This also gives Loki a substantial army to take back to the TVA, where he can join Sylvie and B-15 in dismantling it for good.

The TVA’s end is in sight. For four episodes, Loki has had viewers thinking that Loki or Sylvie would be the one to drop the axe on the organization. However, following B-15’s recent allegiance shift, it seems more plausible that a revolution is on the horizon. As newly awakened variants rise up to meet the person in charge of ruining their lives, it looks like the same systems designed to maintain order in the TVA will lead to its destruction instead.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, and Eugene Cordero. New episodes air Wednesdays on Disney+.
