Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer is rare among shonen protagonists—he’s considerably softer, gentler, and more caring than many of his punk-ish counterparts. Having lost his family to a demon attack, he roams the world with his sister Nezuko, picking up the skills required to become a full-fledged demon slayer.
Tanjiro might end up with [spoiler] at the conclusion of the manga, but how well would he react to potential romances with characters from different anime universes? Some wouldn’t get along with him at all, but there are more than enough who would be a great match for Tanjiro.
10 FMA: Brotherhood — Winry Rockbell Likes Helping Others More Than Anything
Winry often holds back her feelings, but her composure has a tendency to crack when her emotions begin to overflow, proving that she cares for people with every fiber of her being.
Winry’s reaction to Ed’s behavior exemplifies her overprotective nature, not to mention how thoughtful and perceptive she can be. She would especially appreciate Tanjiro’s openness to requesting assistance when required, something Ed finds very difficult to do.
9 Bleach — Rukia Is A Fiery Counterbalance To Tanjiro’s Bashfulness
While Tanjiro is frank and forthright, Rukia prefers to hide her heart under her sleeve, which theoretically doesn’t sound like a good pairing. But it is Tanjiro’s empathy that has the best chance of bringing Rukia out of her anti-emotional shell.
More importantly, Rukia and Tanjiro share a great deal of determination for their respective causes, as well as exhibiting an uncharacteristic fury when pushed to their limits (usually as they face particularly cruel opponents).
8 Gurren Lagann — Kamina Is Motivating & Always Cheery
Tanjiro’s confidence isn’t shaken very often, but when it is, he takes it hard. He needs Kamina’s over-the-top motivational skills to help him look at things in a positive light because that’s exactly what Kamina does with mild-mannered Simon.
A relationship between them is likely when considering that both men are dogged in their pursuits, suggesting a level of understanding that might be unreasonable to expect from most partners. However, what would draw them to each other is their willingness to fight on behalf of others, no matter the consequences.
7 Kill La Kill — Satsuki Seems Distant But Is Surprisingly Open
Satsuki Kiryuin is introduced as a haughty school council leader with a penchant for discipline and a cavalier attitude towards violence. On the surface, these attributes are antithetical to Tanjiro’s core temperament, at least until Satsuki is freed from under her mother’s thumb by her sister, Ryuko.
At the end of Kill la Kill, Satsuki is noticeably more tender, displaying a side of hers that can only be construed as sprightly. One can already imagine her and Tanjiro settling down in a nice house in the country.
6 Attack On Titan — Armin & Tanjiro Are Made For Each Other
Armin is nothing if not inquisitive, going to great lengths to learn about the outside world and fervently share his passion with Eren, his closest friend.
Tanjiro exhibits a similar level of curiosity when it comes to getting stronger, partly explaining his exponential power growth. Even though Armin and Tanjiro’s ultimate goals don’t align, the paths they take are littered with relatable obstacles that they have to overcome. And that’s basically everything in a relationship.
5 Yu Yu Hakusho — Botan’s Playfulness Is Both Charming & Uplifting
Tanjiro resembles Yu Yu Hakusho‘s Yusuke in that they are equally hellbent on completing their tasks, except the latter is a lot more aggressive and hostile. Botan, Yusuke’s spirit guide, works as great as a friend, but her relationship potential is best realized with the generally placid Tanjiro.
He’s one of the few people who’d never get bored with (let alone annoyed by) Botan’s hyperactive impulses or bizarre self-mumbling sessions. Likewise, Botan’s playfulness goes excellently with Tanjiro’s cheery outlook.
4 Hunter X Hunter — Kurapika & Tanjiro Have Their Childhood In Common
Kurapika seems like the most levelheaded of the crew in the first few arcs of the series, and he’s the voice of reason (along with Gon) when things get heated up. This serene façade of his underscores Kurapika’s incredible suffering: the annihilation of his beloved clan by the Phantom Troupe.
Tanjiro undergoes a comparable loss when Muzan massacres his mother and all but one of his siblings. It’s truly unfortunate to live with such a burden, but shared trauma does have a way of bonding people together.
3 My Hero Academia — Froppy Is A Pillar Of Emotional Support
Tanjiro is far from being a cold-blooded killer; on the contrary, he frequently ruminates over the outcomes of the decisions he makes when he needs to take a life. This reveals in him a kind of maturity rarely seen in people of his age (or even adults, for that matter).
Froppy, or Tsuyu, will be able to identify with Tanjiro deeply, given that both have parentless households that forced them to take on responsibilities far beyond their years. Besides, Froppy is referred to as “a perfect pillar of emotional support” by Recovery Girl, and Tanjiro isn’t the type of person to demand emotional labor from his partners.
2 Berserk — Farnese Can Learn Some Empathy From Tanjiro
Tanjiro’s softness is evident to anyone from their first meeting, although this might not work in his favor if he needs to psychologically intimidate his opponents. Despite people’s perception of him, Tanjiro possesses an unflinching personality—and it is not easy to make him lose his temper.
Farnese is a lot of work, but her interactions with Guts have drastically altered her perspective of herself relative to the world around her, making her more receptive to change. She’s become a new woman, significantly more sympathetic than earlier, a feature that will only be enhanced in a relationship with Tanjiro.
1 One-Punch Man — Genos Needs Someone Like Tanjiro More Than He Does Saitama
Genos is far too prim and proper for his own good, but he’s mellowed out after becoming Saitama’s disciple (an inevitable side-effect of hanging out with the latter). That said, there’s little growth for Genos under his current sensei, except perhaps as an eternal sidekick.
Pairing him with Tanjiro is certain to reduce Genos’ uptightness, but it’s going to be a while before the Demon Cyborg will bring himself to relax around the demon slayer. Here is where Tanjiro’s limitless patience will come in handy.
