The world of Naruto is filled with quite a lot of powerful ninja. Although the series started with shinobi whose powers are, more or less, kept reasonably low, stronger characters kept showing up, and by the end of the story, some who were capable of destroying planets were introduced as well.
As such, there are some characters in the series who possessed abilities that are simply too overpowered and should’ve been nerfed for the sake of the story to make sense.
10 Hashirama Senju Had A Unique Kekkei Genkai
Hashirama was the First Hokage of Konohagakure and the strongest the village had seen until Naruto Uzumaki came along. In an era where there was nothing but war, Hashirama Senju rose to the top and surpassed even Madara Uchiha in terms of power. His Wood Release Kekkei Genkai made him nigh-unstoppable and even when he was reincarnated, he was powerful enough to put up a fight against the likes of the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki Obito.
9 Obito Uchiha Had The Powers Of The Six Paths
Obito Uchiha was trained by Madara to succeed him so he could see his plan through, and thanks to his latent potential, he became incredibly powerful over the years. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito even became the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, putting him beyond the reach of most Naruto characters. His strength was such that there was no way to beat him at the time, other than to hit him where it hurt, which was his conflicted emotions. Obito should certainly have been nerfed.
8 Might Guy Almost Killed Six Paths Madara Uchiha
With the power of the Eight Inner Gates unleashed, Might Guy stepped up to fight the strongest shinobi at the time, Madara Uchiha, and surprisingly, completely overwhelmed him in battle. Guy’s strongest Taijutsu, Night Guy, almost killed Madara, and had it not been for the Yin-Yang Release, he would’ve fallen to the Taijutsu expert. Undoubtedly, Guy was way too overpowered.
7 Kakashi Hatake Received The Six Paths Chakra & The Mangekyo Sharingan
Although for a brief period of time, Kakashi Hatake was nigh-invincible in Naruto when he received Obito’s Six Paths chakra and the dual Mangekyo Sharingan. With the power of Kamui, Kakashi was able to make himself completely intangible.
What’s more, thanks to the Six Paths chakra, he could amplify the power of his techniques to a point where he severely injured Kaguya Otsutsuki with it. Hardly any character in the series stood a chance against him during this short time.
6 Sasuke Uchiha Had The Overpowered Rinnegan
In the last saga of Naruto, Sasuke received half of the chakra of the Sage of Six Paths and, thus, awakened the Rinnegan. This eye, along with the Six Paths amplification that he gained, put him close to the level of Six Paths Madara Uchiha. In fact, Sasuke managed to overwhelm him on more than one occasion and even dissected his body with a Chidori. Sasuke’s power was unstoppable, even against the godly Madara.
5 Naruto Uzumaki Was The Strongest Shinobi At The End
By the end of the Naruto era, Naruto Uzumaki had already become the strongest shinobi of all time, surpassing even the likes of Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha. This became possible after he met Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, and received half of his chakra. What’s more, after the fight against Sasuke, Naruto received the other half of Kurama, boosting his already great powers even further. For any villain to stand a chance, Naruto needed to be nerfed.
4 Madara Uchiha Had The Power Of The Sage Of Six Paths
Known to be one of the biggest legends in the world of Naruto, Madara Uchiha was the rival of Hashirama and the only shinobi who could hold his own against him. After being brought back to life in the Fourth Great Ninja War, he got even stronger and attained the power of the Sage of Six Paths by becoming the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails.
Kishimoto, the author of the story, himself admitted that he didn’t know a way to defeat Madara Uchiha, and this just goes to show that he was too strong for anyone in the story to handle.
3 Hamura Otsutsuki Fought Kaguya Otsutsuki For Months
Hamura Otsutsuki was the son of Kaguya and thus inherited her strong chakra. Unlike his brother, he didn’t have the Rinnegan but instead had the power of the Byakugan and the Tenseigan at his disposal. Nonetheless, Hamura was strong as he fought Kaguya for months without tiring. With limitless chakra, Hamura is certainly a character who needed to be nerfed.
2 Hagoromo Otsutsuki’s Existence Was Considered A Myth
The Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki was easily among the strongest characters in the series. Along with his brother, he helped fight Kaguya Otsutsuki for months and what’s surprising is the fact that he did this before hitting his peak. After the fight, Hagoromo became the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails and got even stronger. His powers were such that he could create things out of nothing, breathe life into them with Creation of All Things, and was truly a godly being. It goes without saying that Hagoromo was too strong to be involved in the story directly.
1 Kaguya Otsutsuki Was The Mightiest Of All Characters
The progenitor of chakra, Kaguya Otsutsuki was the mother of Hagoromo and Hamura and her strength surpassed even theirs. Being an Otsutsuki, Kaguya was strong enough to consume the life energy of planets. In her fight against Team 7 and Obito, she proved how big of a threat she truly was, and without some plot convenience, defeating her would’ve been impossible for the heroes. Kaguya was too strong for Naruto and needed to be nerfed for the story to progress.
