Kevin Can F**k Himself’s Allison Follows Breaking Bad’s Footsteps

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for “Living The Dream” and “New Tricks,” the first two episodes of Kevin Can F**K Himself, now available on AMC.

In AMC’s Kevin Can F**k Himself, Allison finds herself in a living hell being married to her deadbeat husband, Kevin. She can’t stand his childish, selfish attitude, knowing only neglect since they got together in high school. It fractures her mind, picturing their moments together as a kooky sitcom, with time apart viewed as a dreary drama. However, as she tries to change things so she can be happier, a twist occurs at the end of the second episode that remixes Breaking Bad’s sinister secret.

AMC won many fans with the award-winning Breaking Bad as it focused on Walt and Jesse looking to earn extra money in Albuquerque. In Walt’s case, he was moonlighting from his chemistry teaching job as Heisenberg, who made perfect meth, and he did this to leave his family cash after he died from cancer. Jesse, on the other hand, simply wanted to get rich, which created many comical yet scary moments.

In Kevin Can F**k Himself, the desperation angles are subverted as Allison enters the world of drugs. She leaves home one night, pissed at Kevin and his crew. She does coke with a mechanic at a pseudo-party and gets the idea that maybe she can kill her husband. It happens when she seeks oxycontin from a doctor who warns her she runs the risk of an overdose.

He doesn’t prescribe the meds, but his secretary points Allison to a hair salon where she can score some. Allison’s reluctant at first but quickly resigns herself to killing Kevin after their neighbors reveal Kevin blew Allison’s life savings. With all her dreams down the drain and no chance of moving out of Worcester, she works up the courage to head over to the salon, scared but pissed.

When she gets inside, the dealer is none other than Patty, who is worried Allison is looking to be her customer. This opens the series up a lot as Allison, who works as a cashier at a liquor mart, could now work with Patty to push drugs.

She needs money to get out this sordid New Jersey life, and Patty feels sorry for her, so this could turn them into a female version of Walt and Jesse. The thing is, Patty and Allison aren’t really friends, and it could get complicated, especially if Patty finds out part of the endgame is to murder Kevin. Patty may be his fake bestie, but she doesn’t want him dead.

Plus, Allison isn’t street smart, thus Patty won’t want her endangering her side hustle, which can get dark if Allison becomes a liability. To top it off, Allison may also become hooked on drugs like Jesse, leaving Patty tentative about a potential partnership.

Created by Valerie Armstrong, Kevin Can F**K Himself stars Annie Murphy, Mary Hollis Inboden and Eric Petersen. The series airs Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
