Former The Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno threw some shade at actors who used CGI effects and padded suits to appear more muscular in their superhero costumes.
Ferrigno, while promoting a new YouTube video about his diet and fitness routine, appeared to poke fun at actors who have enhanced their appearances using screen tricks.
“Thanks @MensHealthMag for this piece on me, my career + tips about what I eat,” the actor tweeted, alongside a video of himself discussing the fitness clip. “When you think about it I was the only superhero character to not wear a costume so keeping up my physique was very important to me!”
In a second post, Ferrigno shared a photo of himself in full costume as The Incredible Hulk. He captioned that image, “Can’t think of another superhero that isn’t in costume or CGI. Worked damn hard on my diet and exercise for the Hulk. Wasn’t going to let anyone down. The hulk was my hero as a kid as well.”
Ferrigno starred as The Incredible Hulk, opposite Bill Bixby’s Dr. David Bruce Banner, in CBS’ The Incredible Hulk television series from 1977-1982. Other actors who have portrayed The Hulk include Edward Norton and Eric Bana. The Hulk has been portrayed most recently by Mark Ruffalo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The latest installment of Men’s Health’s “Eat Like a Celebrity” YouTube series finds 69-year-old Ferrigno breaking down the diet he’s followed in order to stay in peak shape for decades. In addition to talking about the series, Ferrigno gives fans a detailed list of what he eats for every meal.
“I was the only comic character to show my physique with no costume,” Ferrigno says in the video. “…For me, I had to drive to myself to look like The Hulk when I did the series. So that transcended all over the world. Because everybody, when they see The Hulk and they see me in person, they’re getting motivated.”
