The highly anticipated sports anime RE-MAIN will stream on Funimation this summer.
Funimation announced Studio MAPPA’s upcoming water polo anime RE-MAIN will stream on its platform as part of its Summer 2021 lineup. This announcement precedes the larger Summer 2021 Season Preview that will be streamed live on Funimation’s official Youtube channel. While there has not yet been a confirmation on when the anime will debut on the streaming service, RE-MAIN will premiere on TV Asahi on July 3.
RE-MAIN is the latest anime produced by Studio MAPPA, the anime studio whose recent successes include the incredibly popular Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan: The Final Season and the hit original anime Yuri!!! on Ice. Masafumi Nishida, who has previously written episode scripts for Tiger & Bunny, is the original creator of RE-MAIN and will also serve as the series’ director and script supervisor.
The water polo anime will star Yuto Uemura (Bungo Stray Dogs, Vinland Saga, Darling in the FranXX) as protagonist Minato Kiyomizu, Koutaro Nishiyama (Kiznaiver, A3! Season Spring & Summer) as Eitaro Oka and Subaru Kimura (Akudama Drive, Mawaru Penguindrum) as Jo Jojima.
RE-MAIN follows Minato Kiyomizu, a former competitive water polo player who has abandoned the sport because of a traumatic incident in his third year of middle school. Now a high school student, Minato decides he is ready to play water polo again and joins his school’s underdog team.
