Hulu announced it’s renewing its adaptation of The Hardy Boys for a second season.
“It’s no mystery that The Hardy Boys has captured audiences of all ages around the world,” Pam Westman, president of Nelvana, told Variety about the decision to renew the series. “We are excited to work with Lambur, Hulu and Corus again on a new high-stakes case for the Hardy Boys gang, as they race against the clock to uncover the truth of a mysterious disappearance.” Nelvana distributes the series alongside Lambur Productions.
Lambur Productions’ Joan Lambur added, “It’s such an honor to be given the opportunity to continue telling the story of Joe and Frank Hardy. This season promises to provide suspense, action and heart to our audience. We can’t wait to get started.”
Based on the beloved book series by Edward Stratemeyer, Season 1 of The Hardy Boys follows 16-year-old Frank Hardy and 12-year-old Joe Hardy, a pair of brothers and amateur sleuths, as they work together to find out what really happened to their mother Laura, who died under mysterious circumstances. Along the way, the brothers learn about an ancient artifact called the Eye, which appears to be connected to the darkness plaguing their hometown of Bridgeport.
The first season ends with the evil Circle group attempting to unite the broken parts of the artifact in the caves where it was found. The Hardy family tries to stop them, believing the artifact’s dark power to be connected to Laura’s death. While the Circle ultimately succeeds in reforging the Eye, the season also ends with Laura’s murderer dead and the artifact buried beneath the earth.
Season 2 of The Hardy Boys is being executive produced by Lambur Productions’ Joan Lambur and Madeleine Lambur, and Corus and Nelvana’s Doug Murphy, Pam Westman and Athena Georgaklis, in addition to showrunner and head writer Chris Pozzebon (Blindspot, Schitt’s Creek) and showrunner and head director Jason Stone (Riverdale). Meanwhile, Amanda Vaughan and Kathleen Meek will serve as production executives for Corus.
The Hardy Boys stars Alexander Elliot as Joe Hardy, Rohan Campbell as Frank Hardy, Jennifer Hsiung as Jesse Hooper, Keana Lyn as Callie Shaw, Riley O’Donnell as Biff Hooper and Bea Santos as Trudy Hardy. Season 1 of the show is available on Hulu in the U.S. and StackTV in Canada via Amazon Prime Video Channels.
