Big Mouth Spinoff Human Resources Adds Randall Park, David Thewlis and More

Human Resources, the hotly anticipated spinoff of Netflix’s Big Mouth, is adding a host of voice talent to its roster, including Randall Park and David Thewlis.

According to Variety, the news was shared as part of a pre-recorded presentation for the Studio Focus program of this year’s hybrid Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Aidy Bryant, Keke Palmer and Big Mouth writer Brandon Kyle Goodman will also join stars Nick Kroll and Maya Rudolph in the cast.

Park, Bryant and Palmer will become series regulars, while Thewlis and Goodman are slated to “feature heavily” in the show, with Thewlis carrying on his role as the Shame Wizard. The Studio Focus presentation was hosted by Big Mouth voice actor Jason Mantzoukas, who was accompanied by creators and executive producers Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett. Rounding out the panel were showrunner Kelly Galuska and Park, whose character on the show is a Logic Rock named Pete.

“I’m very much a logic rock,” Park divulged, “I felt like this part was written for me, was it? I’m very logical, organized, clean. Pete does everything by the book like me.” The panel presented two clips to introduce viewers to the setting of Human Resources, a “supernatural home world” of Hormone Monsters Maurice (Kroll) and Connie (Rudolph). While in Big Mouth these monsters play secondary roles to the adolescent protagonists’ Nick, Andrew and Jessi, they will be the main characters of the new adult series.

“You have these characters that represent a major force in the human condition,” explained Kroll. “The challenge has been that these characters don’t only function according to the one thing they do professionally. The Logic Rock is filled with a lot of emotion and love and that defies his nature. Building out the characters in that complex way has been a joy.” Adding Shame Wizards, Depression Kitties and a variety of ghoulish species into the mix, Human Resources will provide a closer look at the routines of Big Mouth‘s benignly gruesome spirit guides.

Titmouse, the studio behind Ballmastrz: 9009, Kinderwood and The Midnight Gospel, will animate the upcoming series that is another offering in the adult animation category from Netflix. The streaming giant’s first success in the genre came from the award-winning Bojack Horseman, with Big Mouth‘s September 2017 debut following close behind. Netflix continues its devotion to adult-themed animations, planning such projects as Inside Job and the stop-motion series The House. Even more titles are expected from Brutus Pink, a newly-formed animation production house founded by the Human Resources creative team, which has signed with Netflix to develop a string of adult animated series for film and television.

Human Resources stars Nick Kroll, Maya Rudolph, Aidy Bryant, Randall Park, Keke Palmer, David Thewlis and Brandon Kyle Goodman. A release date has not been announced.
