Jurassic World: Dominion Drops a Photo 65 Million Years in the Making

Universal dropped a Jurassic World: Dominion photo that seemingly teases a sequence set 65 million years in the past, depicting a world ruled over by dinosaurs.

This sequence will be highlighted in Dominion‘s extended five-minute preview, which is set to screen with IMAX showings of F9: The Fast Saga. The preview will also include footage picking up from the ending to 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, with the remaining dinosaurs from Isla Nublar being set loose on a planet where they’re no longer the dominant species and having to learn to live in harmony with humanity.

Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow, who also helmed the first two Jurassic World films, previously described the movie as a celebration of the whole franchise. Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum will join current franchise mainstays Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the film, which Trevorrow promised would be a “true ensemble [piece].”

“Ever since I was a kid, I have wanted to see dinosaurs in their natural habitat,” said Trevorrow. “It may have taken a few decades, but with a little help from ILM, Universal and Amblin, it has finally happened. This preview is just a glimpse of the film we’ve made. It’s an epic celebration of everything Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton created, and I can’t wait to share it with the world next summer.”

Production on Jurassic World: Dominion began in late Feb. 2020, only to halt a few weeks later in response to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Its resumed shooting the following July, paving the way for other Hollywood tentpoles to film under the newly-implemented pandemic-era health and safety protocols.

“I think that close proximity to each other has made the movie better,” said Trevorrow, commenting on the experience in Nov. 2020. “Everything we were going through emotionally we would share. We would rehearse on Sundays, we crafted the characters, which made the emotion of the film richer. I think the movie will be stronger for it.”

Directed by Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World: Dominion stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Jake Johnson, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Omar Sy, Isabelle Sermon and B.D. Wong. The film arrives in theaters on June 10, 2022.
