Attack on Titan began as a survival horror story set within the confines of the great walled city, but the end of Season 3 made it clear that there’s a big world across the sea, and the Marley Empire loomed as Paradis Island’s biggest threat. This great nation boasts not only an advanced and modern military but the power of the Titans, too.
The Marley Empire is a diverse place, with a large population of Eldians ranging from the downtrodden Yeager family to the mighty Tybur family. This empire is home not only to respected leaders, but also highly respected fighters as well, such as the members of the warrior unit (and the young candidates). Which characters in the Marley Empire are held in the highest regard, and by whom?
10 Falco Grice, A Well-Liked Warrior Candidate
Falco Grice is one of several young warrior candidates who longs to become a proper warrior and an honorary Marleyan, and his brother Colt was one, too. Falco took part in the four-year war on Marley’s behalf, though he struggled to keep up with Gabi Braun, his peer.
Falco needed to be saved a few times throughout the story, and while he’s fairly well-liked, he’s hardly the star of Marley’s empire. He does have strong feelings for Gabi, though, and his true potential has not yet been reached.
9 Bertholdt Hoover, The Modest & Quiet Colossal Titan
Bertholdt Hoover once wielded the Colossal Titan, and he was the first Titan to ever appear in the show. Bertholdt and his allies were accepted as Paradis soldiers and fought alongside their fellow Eldians against the Titans, but Bertholdt was ultimately a Marleyan warrior until Armin Arlert ate him.
Bertholdt was fairly modest and quiet, though no one thought badly of him. He was moderately well-liked and respected on Paradis and among his fellow warriors alike, and he certainly must have impressed Reiner Braun with how easily he kicked a hole into Wall Maria.
8 Porco Galliard, The Jaw Titan Who Bravely Confronted Eren
Porco Galliard is a warrior, and many Marleyan warriors command a great deal of respect in the Marleyan Empire for their Titan-based prowess and their willingness to fight for their Marleyan overlords. Porco wielded the Jaw Titan to great effect, and no doubt his fellow warriors thought highly of him for it.
More than once, Porco bravely confronted Eren Yeager’s mighty Attack Titan, and even Eren must have thought highly of Porco for being so brave and tenacious against Eldia’s greatest champion. It’s easy to imagine Porco rising in the ranks with ease.
7 Tom Ksaver, Zeke’s Mentor & Former Warrior
The previous wielder of the mighty Beast Titan was a man named Tom Ksaver, an Eldian warrior who was preparing to pass on this power to an inheritor. He became a researcher for the Marley Empire, and there’s little doubt that he earned a great deal of admiration, or at least some respect, from his people. He even looked the part, with glasses and neat hair.
Tom Ksaver was most popular with one boy: Zeke Yeager, who felt all alone as a struggling warrior candidate. Tom played catch with the young Zeke and set an example as an Eldian warrior, and it was Tom who inspired Zeke to formulate his master plan.
6 Pieck Finger, The Smart & Thoughtful Cart Titan Wielder
Pieck Finger controls the Cart Titan, which oddly looks absolutely nothing like her, from its male form to its strangely elongated muzzle. Pieck’s Titan appeared in Season 3, and Pieck as a human appeared early in Season 4, within the Marleyan Empire. She is fairly popular, to say the least.
Overall, Pieck is admired for her mature and thoughtful personality and her tenacity in battle. She is also cooperative, smart, and kind, and all this endears her greatly to her fellows, including the young Gabi Braun, who practically sees her as a big sister.
5 Reiner Braun, The Troubled & Trusted Armored Titan Wielder
Reiner Braun appeared early in this show, right alongside Bertholdt and Annie Leonhart. Reiner feels somewhat conflicted between serving the Marley Empire and supporting his fellow Eldians. But as of the last aired anime episode, Reiner is fighting for Marley, and plenty of people are counting on him.
In battle, Reiner inspires both awe and terror as the nigh-indestructible Armored Titan, and Commander Magath brought him along to raid Paradis Island’s capital. In addition, characters such as Eren Yeager, Gabi Braun (his cousin), and Bertholdt hold him in high regard. He was also trusted to help Zeke storm and destroy Fort Slava, and end the four-year war.
4 Willy Tybur, An Influential Eldian Nobleman In Marley
Willy Tybur led the respected Tybur noble family in the Marleyan Empire until his untimely demise at the hands of Eren Yeager in Liberio. He appeared in the Attack on Titan anime for only a short time, but it became clear that he commanded a great deal of respect and influence in these lands.
It was Willy who gave that dramatic speech in Liberio to rally the Marleyans and their allies against Paradis Island, and he was a natural showman and swayed the crowds with ease. That, and it’s easy to presume that he’s well-respected as an Eldian nobleman.
3 Gabi Braun, The Top Warrior Candidate With A Reputation
Gabi Braun provoked the fandom’s wrath when she shot and killed the beloved Sasha Braus aboard that airship, but in the story of Attack on Titan, Gabi is held in high regard. Everyone recognizes this headstrong girl as the foremost warrior candidate, and her peers all defer to her and will risk anything to help her.
Gabi is even gaining a reputation on Paradis Island, where she used the false name “Mia” to hide her identity and origins. At this rate, Gabi really might inherit a Titan, and everyone would applaud her for it.
2 Zeke Yeager, The Inspiring Yet Terrifying Beast Titan Schemer
Zeke Yeager is the half-brother of Eren Yeager and the son of Dina Fritz, the last surviving member of the royal Fritz family of a previous era. Zeke had a weak reputation in his boyhood, but then he met Tom Ksaver, and he was motivated more than ever to become a great warrior. His stock went way up when he was allowed to inherit the Beast Titan.
Now, Zeke inspires courage in his allies and terror in his enemies when his Beast Titan begins fighting, and he and Reiner were trusted to take Fort Slava and end the four-year war. Zeke also inspired the Yeagerists, along with his brother, but some Paradis Island citizens respect Eren more since he is a native there.
1 Commander Theo Magath, Who Led The Warrior Unit With A Strong Sense Of Duty
Commander Magath is respected not for his empathetic personality, but simply for his ability to lead Marleyan armies with a strong sense of duty and purpose. So, Magath is respected for traditional and impersonal reasons, though he did have a strong relationship with Willy Tybur. The two men thought rather highly of each other.
All warriors and soldiers are quick to obey Theo Magath and fight bravely for his sake, marking him as an effective and well-respected leader. Even the hot-headed and reckless Gabi was polite and followed procedure when asking Magath for permission to perform a daring move. She didn’t dare break protocol in front of him.
