Madelyn Cline, star of Netflix’s Outer Banks, has signed on to join the cast of Knives Out 2, the sequel to the 2019 comedic murder mystery film.
According to Deadline, Cline’s role and the general plot of the film are not yet known. Daniel Craig will return as private detective Benoit Blanc, who, in the first movie, investigated the apparent suicide of the patriarch of a wealthy family whose children and grandchildren harbored resentments and had various motives to want him dead.
Sequels Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3 will follow the model of Blanc trying to find a killer among a large group of suspects, in the vein of classic whodunit fare from writers such as Agatha Christie and Rex Stout. The first film was made by Lionsgate, but Netflix paid $450 million for rights to both sequels on the strength of the first film’s success. On a $40 million budget, Knives Out grossed $311 million globally. Director/writer Rian Johnson got an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and will write, direct and produce the sequel.

Cline stars on Outer Banks as Sarah Cameron, a leader of a group of North Carolinian, well-heeled teens who are at odds with a rival cohort of blue-collar town residents. Netflix ordered Season 2 to run in summer 2021.
Written, produced and directed by Rian Johnson, Knives Out stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Ana de Armas, and Jamie Lee Curtis, Jaeden Martell, Katherine Langford, Frank Oz, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, and Riki Lindhome. The film is now available on Digital HD and Blu-ray and 4K UHD. Knives Out 2 does not yet have a release date.
