Dungeons & Dragons’ Next Adventure is The Wild Beyond the Witchlight

The next Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook will be The Wild Beyond The Witchlight, an adventure spanning the chaotic dimension of the Feywild.

While not much is currently known about the content of The Wild Beyond The Witchlight. The adventure will mark the introduction of the “wicked whimsy” of the mysterious Feywilds to the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Wizards of the Coast has yet to elaborate on what players can expect but did confirm that more details will be revealed at D&D Live 2021.

Based on the cover of the book, it appears that The Wild Beyond The Witchlight may make heavy use of displacer beasts, old D&D monsters who protect themselves by projecting a perfect illusion of themselves as a decoy. The book is decorated with cover art from Tyler Jacobsen for standard release, alongside an alternate-art cover from Joshua Smith, professionally known as Hydro74.

The Wild Beyond The Witchlight is likely a follow-up to Folk of the Feywild, an Unearthed Arcana supplement released by Wizards of the Coast earlier this year. Folk of the Feywild contains details on several different new racial options for players looking to channel the energies of the sylvan plane, including Fairy, Hobgoblin, Owlfolk and Rabbitfolk.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight also serves as Dungeons & Dragons‘ annual adventure, which traditionally arrive in the fall. 2020’s Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden and 2019’s Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus both released in September of their respective years. These adventures stand in contrast to sourcebooks like Mythic Odysseys of Theros or Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, which are designed to flesh out specific settings, or anthology books like Candlekeep MysteriesWitchlight is a full, self-contained module, intended to be run all the way through from start to finish.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is set to release on Sep. 21. Players looking to get information can tune into D&D Live 2021, which runs from July 16-17.
