X-Men: 10 Lesser Known Heroes That Would Make Great Members | CBR

The X-Men are easily one of the most important teams in the Marvel Universe, fighting not only to save the world but also as defenders of the mutant race, battling for their right to even exist. At this point, everyone knows the X-Men’s most respected members, iconic heroes who have battled some of the most dangerous foes around.

However, there are legions of other mutants who have been X-Men adjacent but never joined the main team or were only on it for a short time. With the Krakoan status quo opening things up for mutantkind, there are plenty of heroes who could join the X-Men and add something new to the team.

10 Strong Guy Would Give The Team A Lot Of Extra Muscle

Strong Guy’s name is admittedly not great but he’s a pretty entertaining character. Former bodyguard for mutant rockstar Lila Cheney, he’s super strong and durable, absorbing kinetic energy to get stronger. He’s been around the X-Men for a while, joining backup versions of the team and also working with X-Factor in some of their most epic adventures.

While Strong Guy’s powers have been known to stress his heart when he absorbs too much kinetic energy, he’s still superlatively strong and can do a lot of damage in battle. The X-Men can always use a muscleman and Strong Guy is perfect in that role.

9 Feral Brings Unrivaled Ferocity To The Table

Because of the importance of Wolverine to the team, having a mean person with claws is pretty much integral to any successful X-Men team. Feral makes a lot of sense in this position. She’s extremely similar to old school Wolverine- a ferocious loner who is just as liable to slash as joke.

A former member of X-Force, Feral has worked with Cable and knows the importance of following orders in battle and has the training and experience to be a great member of the team. There’s always a place for mutants like her on the X-Men- a rough around the edges bruiser who always ready to fight for what’s right.

8 Skids’ Mutant Power Makes Her A Damage Sponge

Every X-Men team needs a member who can take a lot of damage, taking shots for their teammates and doing the necessary defensive work. That’s a perfect role for Skids. Her frictionless force field allows her not only to take a lot of damage but skate along at high speeds, absorbing impacts and energy attacks with ease.

An early member of X-Factor, she wasn’t one of the team’s more important members but she made a difference there and with other teams she joined. She’s never really had a chance to shine on the main team but that should change.

7 The Stepford Cuckoos Pack A Powerful Telepathic Punch

Stepford Cuckoos Cropped

Every X-Men team needs telepathic might, with each team usually including at least one telepath. The X-Men have access to the greatest telepaths around but the one thing better than one telepath is five. That’s where the Stepford Cuckoos come in. These five quintuple clones of Emma Frost are amazingly powerful telepaths and would be great on the X-Men.

Known as the Five In One, they’re able to pool their telepathic power and work together, making them a match for any psionic threat the team faces. They’ve usually been in the background or support positions but it’s time for them to shine.

6 Marrow Is Better Than Her Reputation Implies

Marrow was an X-Man in the ’90s and there are many who believe she was the worst member of the team in those days. However, she was actually a way better fit for the team than most thought. Her redemption arc was classic X-Men- starting as anti-human terrorist, she joined the team, sanded away her rough edges, and became a better person.

Bringing her back to the team could do a lot to redeem her and she just fits in well, her bone blades and armor making her a force to be reckoned with. She’s due for a comeback to show everyone that she was a better X-Man than they thought.

5 Justice Is The Rare Mutant Who’s Never Been On The Team

While the X-Men are known for being the premiere mutant team, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t mutants who never joined the team. One of those is Justice. Starting his career as Marvel Boy, Vance Astrovik used his telekinetic powers as a member of the New Warriors, where he met and began a relationship with Firestar.

The two joined the Avengers together and he would take the name Justice, proving just how great a hero he could be. Justice has never been a member of the X-Men and it’s time for that to change. He has the power and experience to be a fine addition to the team.

4 Sage Is The Perfect Support Member For The Team

Sage has worked with the X-Men for a long time and is due to rejoin the main team. Sage long worked for Xavier as a mole in the Hellfire Club, where she put her super mutant brain to good use spying on the team. She’s basically a living computer, able to analyze a situation and come up with the best course of action.

Currently working with X-Force as their information maven, Sage is the perfect support mutant. She’s smart and has a keen grasp of strategy, her skills making her the perfect back-up. If worst came to worst, she’s also proven to be a keen and skilled combatant. She brings a lot to the table for the X-Men.

3 Firestar Is A Skilled Mutant Who Has Rarely Been On The Team

Firestar has been around the Marvel Universe for a long time- she’s been a New Warrior, an Avenger, and, for a short time, a member of the X-Men. Her fire powers have made her a formidable hero and while she’s struggled with control of her powers in the past, she’s mastered them now.

Her and Justice are a great team and putting them on the X-Men at the same time would be a great idea. Even without Justice, she’d be an asset to the team- for whatever reason the X-Men have always been light with people who have fire powers. Firestar can bring a lot to the X-Men and really shine with the team.

2 Armor Deserves Another Chance On The Main Team

When Armor first debuted, she joined the main team in their battles against Danger, Cassandra Nova, the forces of the Breakworld, and more. However, since then, she’s been downgraded to the training teams even though she’s spent time learning from the best, with Wolverine taking her under his wing.

Armor is like Colossus if he could control the shape of his metal shell. Her energy armor’s form is adaptable, so it can be whatever she wants it to be and is impervious to just about all harm. She can even increase its size, making her a titan that can help the team deal with all kinds of threats.

1 Cannonball Is One Of The Most Decorated Mutants Around

Cannonball has just about done it all. Starting his tenure as a hero with the New Mutants, he led X-Force, joined the X-Men and the Avengers, and eventually married a member of the Shi’Ar Imperial Guard, Smasher. His ability to blast along is more formidable than it seems, as his body generates a kinetic field that absorbs all impacts when he’s blasting, learning to use his skills in clever ways.

As one of the most powerful members of the Guthrie family of mutants, Cannonball has more than proven himself over the years and the fact that he never got lead his own team of X-Men is just kind of weird. Now would be a perfect time for him to come back to the team and prove exactly what he can do.
