Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous – A Major Character’s Story Comes to an End

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the third season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, now streaming on Netflix.

One of the most endearing aspects of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, outside of the teens bonding after being left behind on Isla Nublar, has been Ben’s relationship with Bumpy. Ben truly connected to the Ankylosaurus as he too was an outsider, feeling bad that Dr. Wu felt it was an abomination due to its horn deformity. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise, however, because when the park went to hell, Bumpy, named by Ben of course, would join the kids as their guardian, not just a pet. Come Season 3, though, Bumpy’s story comes to an end, and thankfully, it’s a triumphant one.

Her story with Ben has been quite enticing, teaching younger viewers to accept the concept of ‘the other,’ as Ben makes it clear she’s a sibling to him. When he was lost in the forest and presumed dead after Season 1, she rescued him and kept him safe. She’d also help thwart off the dino-threat of Toro, and here, as they’re all reunited, Bumpy’s once again the pride and joy of the crew.

It gets dark when they discover the Scorpius Rex is on the loose, with one attack at camp causing Bumpy to flee to the wild. Ben does find the dino later on, which marks the beginning of the end. She’s with her herd, accepted at last, and while Ben has reservations, seeing them all protecting her from the Scorpius in a later attack warms his heart.

Bumpy helped him get over being an introvert, and now Ben starts to realize that it’s time he accepted humanity once more outside of his team. He does take Bumpy for one more ride, however, using her herd to attack Wu’s mercs and crush his laptop with all the sinister research he’s been doing.

After the villains escape, the gang hugs and lets go of Ben’s bestie, wishing her the best. Interestingly, Darius’ crew thought Ben was going to stay on the island with Bumpy, but Ben understands now that she has her family; he doesn’t need to oversee her anymore.

He jumps in the ocean and swims to the boat, kissing the island goodbye. Seeing as they’re heading off to Costa Rica and have no more reason to return to Site A, this may be the last we’ve seen of Bumpy. If that’s the case, it’s a heroic ending to her arc as she once more helps save the day and reminds the kids that they need to stick together against both human and dino dangers.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous stars Paul-Mikél Williams as Darius, Jenna Ortega as Brooklynn, Ryan Potter as Kenji, Raini Rodriguez as Sammy, Sean Giambrone as Ben and Kausar Mohammed as Yaz. Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
