While her performance in 2004’s Catwoman wasn’t well-received by critics or audience members, Halle Berry admitted that she still loves the character.
“Yes, Catwoman is still my favorite superhero,” Berry shared on Twitter. Directed by Jean-Christophe “Pitof” Comar, Catwoman starred Berry as a version of Catwoman named Patience Phillips. The film has been criticized for its sloppy storytelling and hypersexualization of Berry. The actor even was given the 2006 Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress — which she graciously accepted.

Catwoman currently has a rating of 9% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 27% on Metacritic. Despite these low ratings, Catwoman earned around $82 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing female-led superhero film until Warner Bros. released 2017’s Wonder Woman.
Berry herself has spoken about the many issues with Catwoman. “I remember having that argument: ‘Why can’t Catwoman save the world like Batman and Superman do? Why is she just saving women from a face cream that cracks their face off?'” she said in a recent interview.
Berry was the third actor to portray Catwoman in a live-action feature film, following Lee Meriwether in 1966’s Batman: The Movie and Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992’s Batman Returns. Warners Bros.’ upcoming film The Batman will feature Zoë Kravitz portraying the character.
Directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrel as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. The film arrives in theaters March 4, 2022.
