Eddie Brock’s life has had some real ups and down, most of them related to Peter Parker/Spider-Man. But in the Venom movie, the Wall-Crawler wasn’t even involved in his life and everything still went down. Fortunately, Eddie has a best friend to help keep his life on track. That friend is an alien symbiote, and together they kind of protect San Francisco in their own special way.
Without question, Eddie’s life has gotten a lot different since he and his new best friend started hanging out. In some ways, things are better and in others they’re worse, but Brock’s life is certainly interesting if nothing else.
10 He Began To Reconnect With His Ex
Eddie Brock wasn’t exactly a nice guy before he met Venom, and his life certainly wasn’t on an upward swing. He lost his job and was divorced from the woman of his dreams, though he hoped he could work that out.
Oddly enough, Venom may have helped that process along, albeit in an indirect way. After their adventures together, Anne Weying actually started talking to Eddie, again. But if he wants to rekindle his romance with her, Eddie will eventually have to come clean about Venom still being alive.
9 He became Kind Of A Superhero
At this moment, it’s hard to say how many superheroes actually exist in the world of Venom. The movie is not part of the MCU, though it is MCU-adjacent. To be frank, Spider-Man’s existence in this world has yet to be 100% confirmed, though he is likely around.
Venom may be one of an extremely small group of superheroes who exist in this world. That’s definitely a big change in Eddie’s life, who was a mostly unemployed journalist at the point he and the symbiote bonded.
8 Eddie Met His New Enemy
After Venom had successfully saved Earth from a symbiote invasion, Eddie got called in to do a major interview at San Quentin Prison. It was with a notorious serial killer named Cletus Kasady.
Why he specifically wanted to talk to Eddie is unclear, but it may have something to do with the symbiote living in his blood. Eddie didn’t know it but he met his greatest enemy that day, something that, for better or worse, would not have happened without the symbiote.
7 He is Still A Journalist, But A Different One
Eddie Brock made a name for himself in San Francisco as a journalist, working to bring down the nefarious companies that prey on regular people. But he pulled at the wrong string, and it quite literally cost him everything.
Being bonded to Venom played a role in him rebuilding his reputation as a journalist. That being said, his double life as a carnivorous hero could make some aspects of that job more difficult while making others easier.
6 It Looks Like He’s Talking To Himself
When Spider-Man was first bonded to the symbiote in the comics, he was unaware that it was a living, sentient being. He learned that the hard way over time. Unfortunately for Eddie Brock, he found out about Venom being sentient almost immediately in the movie.
He can perpetually hear the symbiote’s voice inside of his head, though no one else can hear it. Eddie talks to Venom while they’re walking around. This gives off the appearance that Brock is perpetually talking to himself, which just underscores the fact that people think he’s nuts.
5 He is Constantly Trying To Not Eat People
Venom is a growing puddle of goo, without question. The symbiote is always hungry and doesn’t care if it eats a Big Mac or a random person walking down the street. And unfortunately for Eddie, he’s in charge of curbing those urges.
This comes up nonstop. Venom wants to eat basically every person they walk by and Eddie has to figure out what to feed him that will keep that from happening. That being said, Eddie does let Venom indulge once in a while and eat the occasional criminal.
4 He Knows About Alien Life
This didn’t get discussed enough in the movie, probably because Eddie and his new bestie had much bigger things to worry about. The crazy part for Eddie was that he became one of a very small group of people who were aware of alien life.
And the number of people who also knew got a lot smaller by the end of the movie as most of them were killed. When Eddie has a moment to sit back and really let this little piece of information sink in, it will blow the mind he now shares with an alien lifeform.
3 He Becomes A Murderer
In addition to being a journalist and superhero, Eddie Brock can add another title to his resume. Specifically, Eddie is now a murderer, something he was definitely not prior to bonding with the Venom symbiote.
Venom’s answer to every situation, from dealing with a villain to feeling snacky, is to kill and eat someone. It’s his go-to move. Eddie fights that urge as much as possible but he has also given into it on more than one occasion. He’s often as much to blame as the symbiote, whether he wants to admit it or not.
2 He Shares His Body With Someone Else
At first glance, having the powers of Venom seems like it would actually be kind of cool. In addition to having some abilities comparable to Spider-Man’s, Venom has his own range of powers to choose from.
But it also must be extremely strange for Eddie to share his body and his mind with a completely separate being. No matter how long that goes on for, it would be impossible to get completely used to that.
1 He Learns To Trust Someone
As a general rule, Eddie Brock does not trust people. That comes with the territory of being an investigative journalist to an extent, though Eddie probably had a bit of a pessimistic and paranoid streak in him, to begin with.
Having to share his life with the symbiote on such a personal, intimate level taught him to trust someone. As odd as this sounds, being bonded to Venom has made him a better person in some important ways. That doesn’t include the eating people thing, of course.
