It’s going to be some time before the next part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake makes its way down to players. Originally stated to be arriving somewhere in 2022, there is always a chance that players could be lucky enough to see it arrive sooner.
While waiting, many fans have speculated where exactly the next installment will cut off. There is too much game left to cram it all into only one more, so it’s good that there will eventually be a third. However, that means that the developers have a lot of fuel to pick through in order to pick just the right time to cut this one short.
10 Aerith’s Death Scene
One of the key moments in the game was Aerith’s death. That was the moment when Cloud and company got serious. The whole tone of the game before changed from a more heroic tale to one laced with vengeance. It is one of the most memorable deaths in all gaming history, so it would only make sense to punctuate the next installment of the remake with that scene.
Besides, it was a gorgeous scene back in its low poly days. With the detail that the game is showing with modern technology? Having this be the final scene could really give it the beauty it deserves.
9 Stop In Nibelheim
Nibelheim itself had a lot going for it. Plot point after plot point gets dropped, and there’s a whole optional character who can be found here. Upon finding Vincent Valentine, the party is also informed about more of Sephiroth’s madness and how the mansion itself played into it.
Cutting off before the flashback could make it so that the flashback itself could start the following addition. Otherwise, enough happens within the city that it could easily be a good resting place for the game.
8 Cosmo Canyon Cutscene Cliffhanger
Within this town, players are treated to an intense backstory for Red XIII. There is a massive observatory with a lore-heavy cutscene, and Barret informs the group that this is where Avalanche started.
With such a massive infodump and the number of cutscenes that happen, running through Cosmo Canyon would not be much of a stretch. It could even end with a pretty cutscene and use that to cliffhang for the next installment. Might just need to change some of the dialogue.
7 After Northern Crater When Meteor Appears
At this point in the game, Cloud is missing. Sephiroth is gallivanting across Gaia. Weapons are unchecked everywhere. Aerith is dead. By all accounts, things couldn’t get much worse— then they do.
Ending at the point where the game’s logo makes its appearance would seriously drive home the need to do something about it. It would leave new players saying, “that can’t be everything,” while reminding veterans about the impending doom of the Meteor fall.
6 Underwater Arc Reactor & Submarine Battle
While going for the third piece of Huge Materia, Cloud and the gang end up in the Underwater Arc Reactor. It might be a strange place to have ending, but it gives room before some really heavy stuff happens so that the next installment can start on a higher note.
Stopping before all of the Huge Materia is found could also make it so people want to finish what they started when the next game rolls around instead of being content in the knowledge they finished something.
5 Wrap It Up At Whirlwind Maze
Once the maze is completed, Sephiroth is waiting at the center as imposing as ever. The whole area ends with a number of cutscenes, all of which could easily be used to wrap up the section.
This would also give in for a good spot to rest before needing to return to Junon at the start of the third part. Give players time to process the massively heavy plot and veterans time to stew on some of the rest coming up.
4 Make It to Mideel
A fun little way to end could be in Mideel. This way all of the Huge Materia needs to be collected in a third installment without risk of breaking it up.
Players would get to find their way to Yuffie’s hometown, get to Choco Billy’s Ranch, and start all that work to get a Gold Chocobo while waiting for the next part to be released.
3 Fly Away From Junon On The Highwind
Finish up the return to Junon plot by flying off into the sunset on the Highwind. In the original game, this was the point where players gained the ability to fly all over the map. Here it could serve to make a great scene to wrap up this installment.
It would need a little bit of effort to redo, since who really wants to go back through the trouble of doing that Gas Room miniquest? It’s almost as bad as the infamous CPR scene.
2 Battle It Out At Fort Condor
Fort Condor is where there’s a major battle with Shinra. In the original game, it included a really interesting minigame to explore the battle. With a little work, it could be an interesting addition to the game.
Then, after finishing off and walking away with a win, the credits can roll and players can sit back feeling accomplished in themselves. It might not be the greatest ending, but the appeal is there, especially if the battle gets hyped up.
1 Bookend With The Return To Midgar
Originally, disc 2 ended after returning to Midgar and fighting against the mad scientist Hojo. So naturally having the remake end at roughly the same point would make a lot of sense.
Plus, there’s just something satisfying about the prospect of bookending it— start the next installment just after leaving Midgar, end it just after coming back.
