My Hero Academia features a dazzling cast of characters, from the gritty underdog Izuku Midoriya to his friends and classmates, such as the sweet but tough Ochaco Uraraka and the explosive Katsuki Bakugo. Often, these characters’ personalities and lifestyles are expressed accurately with their Quirks, but the same is also true in their choice of Pokémon.
Over 700 Pokémon are out there, from common Rattatas to the mythical Ho-Oh, and a Pokémon trainer can build a team of six that reflects the trainer’s own combat preferences and personal style. Gym leaders such as Blaine, Koga, and Lt. Surge all prove this, and if Ochaco Uraraka ended up in the Kanto region, she would have no trouble picking out the right Generation I Pokémon to complete her team.
10 OCHACO WOULD WANT: Lapras, For Its Gentle Disposition
A Pokémon trainer’s choice in Pokémon can reflect their personalities quite easily, and while Ochaco Uraraka is a fighter at heart, she is also a compassionate girl who appreciates the beautiful things in life. So, she will want a cuddly Pokémon like Lapras by her side.
Lapras can fight, but it is usually prized as a living ferry, moving people across bodies of water out of the kindness of its heart. A cuddly Pokémon like this would greatly appeal to Ochaco, and she and that Lapras would become the best of friends.
9 OCHACO WOULDN’T WANT: Gengar, The Fiendish Ghost
This is one of the few Ghost-type Pokémon found in the classic Generation I, being the fully-evolved form of the goofy-looking Ghastly. Gengar is a humanoid purple creature with a wicked grin and glowing red eyes, and it’s more than a little spooky to look at.
Gengar’s combat moves are all insidious and eerie, and Ochaco would find this Pokémon rather unsettling to have around, even if it’s loyal to her. Perhaps Fumikage Tokoyami would like this Pokémon, but Ochaco must pass on it.
8 OCHACO WOULD WANT: Eevee, The Cuddly Evolutionary Anomaly
Ochaco would definitely have a weakness for cute and cuddly Pokémon like Eevee, though she also knows that the Pokémon must be effective fighters, too, especially if Team Rocket were to ever get in her way. Eevee is perfect for her team, and not just for its looks.
In combat, Ochaco is quick, nimble, and agile, having learned to perform close-quarters combat moves from the pro hero Gun Head. Eevee can do the same with Quick Attack and the like, and it can evolve into anything. This reflects how Ochaco has vast potential to become any kind of hero she likes in the future.
7 OCHACO DOESN’T WANT: Rhyhorn, A Brute-Force Fighter
Rhyhorn is a tough Pokémon that can use Ground and Rock elements to deal heavy damage to the opponent, though this durable Pokémon may struggle to dodge enemy attacks. Perhaps the pro hero Cementoss or Eijiro Kirishima would find Rhyhorn appealing, but not Ochaco.
This Pokémon’s fighting style is rather different from how Ochaco usually fights, and Rhyhorn can’t replicate Ochaco’s light-footed maneuvers and tricky zero-gravity attacks. Gravity is not always Rhyhorn’s friend.
6 OCHACO WOULD WANT: Vulpix, The Flaming Fox Pokémon
In many regards, Vulpix can be thought of as a cousin to Eevee, in particular, Eevee’s Fire-type evolution, Flareon. Vulpix is a small but agile mammalian Pokémon that is well known for its intense flame attacks and its fast-moving body. Hitting a Vulix isn’t easy.
Ochacho needs a powerful Pokémon on her team to act as a finisher, and if her Vulpix can learn devastating Fire-type moves, she’s all set. And it helps that Vulpix can echo Ochaco’s high-speed maneuvering and is downright adorable outside of combat. This fox Pokémon is a must.
5 OCHACO WOULDN’T WANT: Tentacruel, A Stinging Monster
In the world of Pokémon, looks aren’t everything, since a seemingly cuddly Pokémon might have a bad attitude or a scary-looking one might have a heart of gold. All the same, though, Ochaco’s personal tastes would probably steer her away from monstrous Pokémon species such as Tentacruel. It even has “cruel” in its name.
This aquatic fighter is the evolved form of Tentacool, using its stinging tendrils to paralyze its foes and crush them in its merciless grip. That’s a cool fighting style, but it’s different from how Ochaco fights, and she’d find this Pokémon scary rather than charming. It’s not the biggest charmer after all.
4 OCHACO WOULD WANT: Electabuzz, The Lightning Puncher
This is a curious Pokémon, combining martial arts with lightning attacks, as opposed to armless Generation I Electric types such as Magneton and Electrode. Electabuzz is loosely based on oni and lightning gods from Japanese mythology, and it can deliver a serious knockout punch in battle.
Electabuzz can use a variety of Electric attacks to incapacitate its foes bloodlessly, something Ochaco may find appealing when fighting a tough opponent. Its emphasis on quick melee combat would appeal to her too, with moves like Low Kick and Swift, among others.
3 OCHACO WOULDN’T WANT: Weezing, The Noxious Gas Pokémon
This somber-looking Pokémon is the evolution of Koffing, appearing as a pair of Koffings of different sizes stuck together. On an aesthetic level, Ochaco wouldn’t like Weezing at all, being a floating, rocky ball with a glum face and a skull and crossbones. But there are other issues, too.
Weezing is a decent fighter, but its use of poison gas clouds would remind Ochaco of the League of Villains member Mustard, which would not bring back pleasant memories. This Pokémon would feel distinctly villainous to Ochaco, and that’s not good.
2 OCHACO WOULD WANT: Lickitung, The Tongue Pokémon
Lickitung is a bipedal, pink-skinned Pokémon that indeed has a monster tongue at its disposal. In battle, Lickitung can extend that huge tongue to coat the opponent in its saliva, and quickly paralyze or cripple them before finishing them off with melee attacks.
Combining a magical effect like that with good old-fashioned martial arts is somewhat reminiscent of Ochaco’s own fighting style, and she would find Lickitung a bit odd but cuddly to have around. And her Lickitung will love her right back.
1 OCHACO WOULDN’T WANT: Cloyster, A Fierce Underwater Fighter
This is a heavily protected Pokémon, having a durable shell that can shrug off most enemy attacks with ease just like its earlier stage, Shellder. This might remind Ochaco of Kirishima and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu of class 1-B, but that doesn’t mean she would want to capture one for her team.
Cloyster is a capable fighter, having many ice and water attacks at its disposal, not to mention its missile attacks. But Ochaco already has Lapras as her Water-type Pokémon, and Cloyster’s relatively slow movements on land and its appearance would be major turn-offs in Ochaco’s eyes.
