One Piece: 5 Whitebeard Pirates Sanji Can Beat (& 5 He Can’t)

For more than two decades, One Piece has been telling the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, but their world is filled with other pirate crews who are looking to stand above all the rest. Edward Newgate founded the Whitebeard Pirates decades ago, and thanks to his strength, compassion, and leadership, the crew expanded into a massive fleet with multiple divisions and literally thousands of crewmembers.

Sanji was the fifth person to join Luffy’s crew, and although his entire offense revolves around kicks, he is one of the Straw Hats’ strongest fighters. Sanji has won his fair share of fights over the course of the series and if he were to go up against some of the more prominent members of the Whitebeard Pirates, he would probably walk away victorious, but there are also certain members who can beat him pretty easily.

10 Can Beat: Blamenco’s Devil Fruit & Hammer Aren’t Problematic For Sanji

Blamenco is the commander of the Whitebeard Pirates’ 6th division, which means that he has complete authority over all of the crew’s lower-ranked members. He possesses one of the most useless devil fruits in the series, as it essentially gives him the power to store things inside his body.

At Marineford, Blamenco was able to take out multiple marines with a single swing of his massive hammer. Sanji can use Observation Haki, which means that he can dodge Blamenco’s hammer very easily, and he can use Diable Jambe to light it on fire. He can then knock Blamenco out by unleashing a barrage of Armament Haki-infused kicks.

9 Can’t Beat: Marco Is A Skilled Fighter Who Can Heal Virtually Every Injury

Marco At Marineford

The Marineford Arc improved One Piece in a number of ways, and it showed fans just how strong Marco really is. Marco commanded the 1st division, and he served as Whitebeard’s right-hand man. He ate a mythical zoan-type devil fruit which allows him to transform into a fiery blue phoenix, and the flames give him the ability to heal any injury within seconds.

Sanji can kick Marco as much as he wants and it will do nothing but tire him out. He could try hardening his kicks with Armament Haki, but Marco can just block it with his own Haki.

8 Can Beat: Atmos Won’t Be Able To Stand up To Sanji’s Kicks

Atmos commands the 13th division of the Whitebeard Pirates, and Doflamingo acknowledged his strength during the Summit War when the two met on the battlefield. He wields a pair of large swords that are capable of cutting through other swords, and they are durable enough to block multiple bullets.

Atmos doesn’t have a devil fruit power, and he isn’t capable of using Haki either, which means that he is just an ordinary human who possesses an impressive amount of physical strength. His body may be incredibly durable, but even he won’t be able to withstand Sanji’s kicks for very long.

7 Can’t Beat: Even With Haki, Ace’s Logia Powers Would Be Too Much

There are several characters who are better protagonists than Luffy, and the argument can be made that Ace should be on that list. Ace is the son of the legendary Gol D. Roger, and he commanded the Whitebeard Pirates’ 2nd division. He ate the Flame-Flame Fruit, and it allows him to create, manipulate, and transform his body into fire.

Like most logia users, Ace’s body cannot be harmed by normal attacks, which means that Sanji’s kicks, including his Diable Jambe, would simply pass through his body. It is true that Sanji can hit Ace if he uses Armament Haki, but Ace can just use his fire to burn Sanji to a crisp.

6 Can Beat: Squard May Be A Veteran, But He Lacks Haki & A Devil Fruit

Squard At Marineford

Squard is the captain of the Maelstrom Spider Pirates, and he has been allied with Whitebeard for years because he viewed the legendary pirate as a father. He may have been tricked into betraying Whitebeard during the battle at Marineford, but he was ultimately forgiven and fought to save Ace’s life.

Squard may be a veteran pirate, but he lacks Haki and the power of a devil fruit, which means that he isn’t much of a threat to someone like Sanji. He wields a standard katana as well as a comically large one, and with enough force, Sanji can simply kick them out of his hands.

5 Can’t Beat: If Sanji Can’t Beat Mihawk, He Can’t Beat Vista

Vista At Marineford

One Piece is filled with swordsmen, and Vista is amongst the strongest in the series. He may be the commander of the 5th division, but he is one of the strongest and most trusted members of Whitebeard’s crew, as he was chosen to personally protect Luffy while the Straw Hat captain was trying to save Ace.

Mihawk is regarded as the strongest swordsman in the world, and Vista is capable of deflecting his attacks. Mihawk would destroy Sanji in a fight, and if Vista can go toe-to-toe with him, he can easily beat Sanji too, especially since he can use both Observation and Armament Haki.

4 Can Beat: Sanji Has Already Defeated Several Strong Fishmen Like Namur

Namur At Marineford

There are plenty of strong Fishmen in the series, and Namur deserves to be on that list since he commanded Whitebeard’s 8th division. As a Fishman, Namur naturally possesses ten times more physical strength than an ordinary human, and he displayed that strength during the Summit War when he took out numerous marines with his martial arts.

Sanji proved during the Arlong Park and Fish-Man Island Arcs that he is capable of taking on Fishmen, especially Fishmen like Namur who cannot use Haki. Namur may be a skilled martial artist, but his strikes will mean nothing if Sanji uses his Armament Haki for offense and defense.

3 Can’t Beat: Sanji’s Kicks Would Never Hurt Jozu

Diamond Jozu At Marineford

Jozu was in command of the 3rd division, and he possessed natural superhuman strength and endurance. He is capable of using both Observation and Armament Haki, but what really makes him a formidable opponent is the Sparkle-Sparkle Fruit.

This devil fruit allows Jozu to transform his body into diamond, and this transformation makes him even stronger. The diamond skin essentially turns Jozu into a living shield that cannot be broken, and this means that none of Sanji’s kicks will ever be able to hurt him.

2 Can Beat: Speed Jiru Uses An Ordinary Lance & Shield

Speed Jizu At Marineford

As the commander of the 14th division, Speed Jiru was a prominent member of Whitebeard’s crew. He wields a jousting lance in one hand and a small shield in the other, and during the Summit War, he used his incredible speed to avoid an attack from Admiral Kizaru. The attack in question was a laser beam that traveled at roughly the speed of light.

Jiru’s speed may be impressive, but Sanji’s Observation Haki should allow him to avoid most of his attacks. If Sanji attacks Jiru with Haki-infused kicks, there is a good chance both the lance and spear will shatter.

1 Can’t Beat: Sanji Would Never Be Able To Overcome Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit

Whitebeard At Marineford

Whitebeard is one of the most respected pirates in history, and he possessed a devil fruit that is so powerful it can literally shatter the world. The Tremor-Tremor Fruit allows Whitebeard to create quakes and shockwaves, and he is able to produce these quakes through land, sea, and air.

If Whitebeard were to actually hit Sanji with a devil-fruit-imbued punch, the vibrations would likely shatter Sanji’s bones and rupture a few of his organs. Whitebeard also possesses all three forms of Haki, and he has mastered all of them, which means that his Armament and Observation Haki are superior to Sanji’s.
