Crossplay for Bungie’s massively multiplayer online FPS title Destiny 2 will be arriving soon, with a beta for the feature set to go live on May 25.
The announcement of the long-requested feature came via the developer’s blog “This Week At Bungie,” where the team detailed how the feature would be implemented and tested. It explained that while crossplay was briefly released at the beginning of recent “Season of the Splicer,” the availability of the feature was unintentional, and the system was quickly removed. “We saw players mingling between platforms, which was awesome,” the blog reports. “That said, we needed to smash that bug like a subscribe button to get our release back on track.” The post goes on to specify that Bungie is hoping to have crossplay ready to ship in Season 15 — but first, it will need to be beta tested.

The beta testing period will occur between May 25 and May 27, whereupon a unique Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist will be available for all Destiny 2 players. Matchmaking will occur between players on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Stadia. The crossplay beta will be limited to the specific activity — players won’t be able to recruit their friends or form a fireteam during the beta. This is due to the event specifically targeting matchmaking systems and features to prepare for the upcoming Season 15, which is expected to begin August 24.
“We’ll be doing some internal rollouts and alpha tests in Season 14 to prepare for a widespread launch this fall,” Destiny 2 assistant game director Joe Blackburn stated in February. “With crossplay, you’ll be able to play with all your friends no matter what platform you call home. And don’t worry, we won’t be matching console and PC players together in the RELATED: How Destiny 2 Is Making Its Lore More Accessible
As a reward for players who participate in the test, a unique “Star Crossed” emblem will be distributed to anyone who completes three strikes in the Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist. Players will be able to show off the emblem whenever their account is featured on a loading screen, roster listing or after Crucible matches. This emblem will only be available to participants of the Beta test and will remain a permanent item in players’ inventories, incentivizing players to participate in the beta if they can.
Developed by Bungie, Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online multiplayer first-person shooter. It is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia and PC.
