The Suicide Squad’s Harley Quinn Has the Biggest Stunt of Gunn’s Career

Director James Gunn reveals that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn has not only the most epic stunt in The Suicide Squad, but the most complicated stuntwork in Gunn’s career thus far.

While discussing the upcoming DC Extended Universe film, Gunn praised Robbie’s talents to AP, stating, “She’s able to do the comedy. She’s able to do the drama. And physically, she is a pure athlete and is able to do these stunts in such a graceful, magnificent, beautiful way. And so I wrote the biggest action scene I’ve ever done all around (Robbie’s character) Harley, and it was so fun to create just on every level from working with the stunt guys all the way through to working with her. It’s probably my favorite four minutes of film I’ve ever shot before.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director continued, “[Margot Robbie] can do anything. Or I thought she could do anything. And then one day she had to sing and I said, ‘OK, well you can do everything but one thing.’ But she’s such a great actress. She embodies the character.”

In April, Robbie previously shared her take on The Cupid of Crime, stating, “One of the first things I said to [The Suicide Squad writer/director] James [Gunn] was, I think Harley is a catalyst of chaos. She’s not necessarily your narrative center, and sometimes it’s great when plot points can rest on other characters’ shoulders, and she can be the thing that erupts a whole sequence of events. That’s something I felt he agreed with based on… the script.”
