Mikasa Ackerman was among the most powerful non-titan characters of the Attack On Titan universe and has proved herself deserving of the Ackerman surname. Strong enough to carry up to five thunder spears at once and skilled enough to contend with the anime’s deadliest giants, her contributions to the Scouts are second only to Levi.
By matching Mikasa against characters from the Avatar universe, we can better gauge the versatility of her skill set and how well she would adapt against adversaries she’s unfamiliar with. Moreover, we gain a firmer understanding of her greatest strengths and weaknesses.
10 COULD BEAT: Mikasa Could Dodge Mako’s Lightning & Decapitate Him
Mako was one of Korra’s closest allies and a man capable of bending both fire and lightning. The latter made him a deadly adversary to contend against given the speed of his attacks.
However, Mikasa has dodged bullets at point-blank range as proven through her battle against Kenny’s military police, and has therefore shown an affinity for anticipating projectiles in advance. This would allow her to close the distance between herself and her opponent before decapitating him.
9 WOULD LOSE TO: Toph Could Use Mikasa’s Own Thunder Spears Against Her
Under ordinary circumstances, it might seem as if Mikasa could defeat Toph. Not only would her ODM gear prevent her from touching the ground and allow her to avoid Toph’s sonar, but her thunder spears would also be able to blast apart the young girl’s earth shield defenses and her along with them.
However, Toph was the progenitor of metalbending and would subsequently be able to crush Mikasa’s thunder spears before she could throw them. Consequently, Mikasa would die in a fiery blaze and on account of the very same weapon she’d rely on to win the battle.
8 COULD BEAT: The Lieutenant Had No Bending Prowess & Inferior Melee Skills
The Lieutenant was Amon’s most reliable servant and a proponent of the Equalist movement. He used his electric batons to fight evenly with Lin Beifong and was fast enough to keep up with motorized vehicles on foot.
However, he has never displayed nearly as much agility or strength as Mikasa, and his weapons have lower striking power and reach. Additionally, he’s unfamiliar with the nature of ODM gear, meaning if Ackerman were to use it as a harpoon to puncture his throat, he’d meet a similar death as Floch.
7 WOULD LOSE TO: Amon’s Bloodbending Would Make Mikasa’s Agility Obsolete
Amon was the leader of the Equalist movement and arguably the series’ most powerful bloodbender. Though Mikasa might have the physical strength to overpower his ability (similarly to how Mako did at the conclusion of the first book), she would still be significantly slowed and unable to access her weapons.
Should Amon strike her pressure points while she’s encumbered, he would be able to score a safe victory. Considering he was fast enough to dodge lightning in his victory over Zolt, Amon would also be able to fight Mikasa intensely even if he didn’t decide to use his bending.
6 COULD BEAT: Combustion Man Has Low Mobility & Relatively Slow Attacks
Combustion Man was a mercenary hired by Zuko to finish off Aang and his allies. Though he possessed immense durability and incredibly high firepower capable of caving in a rocky haven in a matter of minutes, his mobility and the speed of his attacks left much to be desired.
Not only was he unable to release attacks rapidly, but their trajectory was also abysmally predictable. If Mikasa were to throw a thunder spear at him and remain out of his line of sight, the bruiser would be obliterated.
5 WOULD LOSE TO: Azula Balanced Agility With Bending To Become Nearly Unstoppable
Azula possessed all of Mikasa’s inherent strength, capable of leaping across tall chasms and defeating dozens of skilled soldiers through the merit of her martial arts alone. Her experience enabled her to use her bending much more intelligently than Mako could and land a bolt of lightning against Mikasa when an opportunity presented itself.
She was powerful enough to smother an entire arena in fire, while also being able to propel herself in any direction by concentrating her flames at her feet. This would allow the Fire Nation despot to keep up with Mikasa in spite of her ODM gear.
4 COULD BEAT: Huu’s Massive Swamp Golem Wouldn’t Protect Him From Mikasa’s Attacks
Huu was capable of commanding the venation around him and using it like an extension of himself. This facilitated incredibly high strength and durability, much like that of a titan.
Considering Mikasa’s affinity for dispatching larger opponents as proven through her encounter against Annie and victory over Reiner, she should be able to navigate his body with ease before landing dozens of thunder spears on his nape. The resulting explosion would kill the bender inside.
3 WOULD LOSE TO: Zaheer’s Airbending Would Allow Him To Control The Fight
After reaching enlightenment, Zaheer was fast enough to keep with Korra in the Avatar state and strong enough to unleash gusts of wind that could obliterate solid rock. As useful as Mikasa’s skillset might seem, the nature of his abilities would render her potential victory impossible.
Considering that he is able to fly, the only way Mikasa could harm him is with thunder spears or by attempting to use her ODM gear. Unfortunately, the gales at the monk’s command evince that he could offset both, deflecting her projectiles and blowing away grappling hooks before they could connect with their intended target.
2 COULD BEAT: Sato’s Armor Is Vulnerable To Thunder Spears
Sato’s armor provides a defense impervious to most attacks. It was resistant against the bending of Tenzin and armed with electric, extendable grapples that provided a significant amount of offensive utility.
However, Mikasa’s thunder spears were specifically designed to overcome armored opponents, as proven through her victory against Reiner and the damage she inflicted to Lara Tybur. Considering that Hiroshi is almost completely immobilized in his battle suit, he could not hope to enact evasive maneuvers before being blown up.
1 WOULD LOSE TO: Aang Balances High Mobility & A Diverse Arsenal Mikasa Couldn’t Hope To Overcome
Aang has a diverse means of defeating Mikasa on account of the elements he commands. Since he is protected by a wind and earth shield, it follows that he could disseminate much of the force behind his opponent’s thunder spears before they had a chance to connect on him – if they connected at all.
By creating a violent gale to surround the area, Aang could offset Mikasa’s ODM gear and send her spiraling out of control. From there, he would restrain her in a rocky tomb, winning the fight in the process.
