Fire is one of the most important and most dangerous elements to human civilization, and anime is filled with characters who can wield it like a weapon. While it’s common to portray such characters as having personalities as fiery as their powers, it’s not unheard of for these characters to be stoic, emotionless, and even rather cold. After all, fire has the ability to cause large amounts of damage and destruction, saddling the user with an enormous burden of responsibility. If they get too hot-headed, who knows what might happen?
These characters are not necessarily villains. In fact, their cold personalities might be a mask to hide their true feelings. If they are on the main character’s team, it usually goes without saying that they do care for their friends deep down, but they just seldom show it.
10 Naruto: Sasuke Can Do A Lot With Fire
Sasuke Uchiha is Naruto’s rival and is famous for his reserved loner personality, as well as having issues with being part of a team, especially towards the start of the story. As a member of the Uchiha clan, Sasuke has a natural affinity for fire. He has a few techniques that essentially allow him to breathe fire. He can even fashion arrows out of flames and even conjure an inextinguishable black fire that can even eat up other fires.
9 Yu Yu Hakusho: Hiei Is The Stoic Fire User Of The Group
Hiei is a fire yokai born to an ice maiden, causing him to be forcibly taken from his mother as a baby. By the time he’s introduced in the series, he’s actually something of a villain, although he eventually becomes an ally to Yusuke and becomes one of the four main characters.
In general, he tends to act in a stoic manner and speaks mostly in taunts, especially in the anime. It’s not that he doesn’t have emotions, it’s just that he rarely shows them. He also seems to have some power over darkness, as seen in his Dragon of the Darkness Flame attack.
8 Sailor Moon: Sailor Mars Is The Sailor Scout Of Fire
Rei Hino is the Sailor Scout of Fire. Although her personality tends to vary from version to version, in the original manga, she’s rather cold and distant, and sometimes comes off this way in adaptations. The planet Mars, although known as the “Fire Star,” is actually rather cold.
A lot of villains who are meant to serve as some sort of evil counterpart to Rei, such as Koan of the Spectre Sisters or Eudial of the Witches 5, also have power over fire.
7 Tokyo Mew Mew: Mew Zakuro Is The Lone Wolf Of The Group
As the other Mew Mews correlate to the classic elements of air, water, and earth, Zakuro Fujiwara is aligned with fire, with it notably appearing in her transformation sequence. In practice, her attack seems more connected to light. As the wolf-themed Mew Mew, she is rather cold and aloof. As a model, she tends to act much more friendly and approachable on camera than in person, causing people who meet her not to recognize her.
6 Kaze No Stigma: Genma Kannagi Means Well, But Acts Cold &am Strict
Kazuma Yagami comes from a family of fire users but was unable to use such a power himself, causing him to be treated as an outcast and disinherited by his own father, Genma Kannagi, hence their different surnames.
Despite appearances, he means well and hopes that expelling his son would actually allow him to develop his own path in life and escape bullying from other members of the family. This wasn’t completely wrong, as Kazuma ended up becoming a powerful wind mage. Despite this, his father never admits to his true intentions and refuses to acknowledge Kazuma as his son.
5 Wedding Peach: Angel Salvia Is Rather Merciless
Scarlett Ohara, who transforms into Angel Salvia, is rather cold and snarky thanks to having loved ones killed by devils. That said, she does get a bit fiery, if somewhat merciless, when helping the other Love Angels fight devils. She’s generally known for fighting with a sword, but is also capable of the “Bridal Fire” attack, in which she shoots fire from her sword.
4 Hell Girl: Ai Enma Burned Down Her Village
Ai Enma, the titular Hell Girl, can come off as rather cold and emotionless, especially when she’s dragging unfortunate souls into Hell. Her position also comes with a variety of powers.
While she’s heavily connected to darkness and illusions, she can also conjure fire. The first known time she did this was when she burned down her home village out of revenge with just a wave of her hand. It’s implied her fire powers only show up when she’s emotionally provoked.
3 Witch Hunter Robin: Robin Sena Is A Hunter & A Witch With Fire Powers
Robin is a teenage Hunter and a witch who has the power to manipulate fire. Interestingly, this series does highlight the blinding nature of fire, as Robin’s powers weaken her eyes to the point that she eventually adopts a pair of glasses. While usually good-natured, Robin can come off as calm and introverted enough that she rarely shows emotions. When using her powers, she is willing to be lethal, however, if she can save lives.
2 Vampire Princess Miyu: Miyu Uses Fire To Fight Shinma
Miyu is a vampire born to a human and a parasitic being called a Shinma, although her exact origin tends to vary from version to version. She is tasked with banishing other Shinma from the Earth, using fire attacks to accomplish this goal. In the OVA, she’s somewhat cruel and a bit of a trickster. In the manga, however, she uses a more stoic and aloof demeanor as a facade to hide her true nature. The television adaptation tends to make her a bit kinder.
1 My Hero Academia: Shoto Todoroki Combines Fire & Ice In Different Ways
Anime is filled with warmhearted ice users and coldhearted fire users, so it makes sense a character would come along who is a mix of both: Shoto Todoroki. Thanks to his Quirk, he has power over both ice and fire. Likewise, while he normally acts in a stoic manner and can come off as rather cold, he can also show different emotions, going from kind to arrogant at different points in the series, warming up after coming to terms with his fire powers.
