The Immortal Hulk is nearing its end, and Marvel has revealed Alex Ross’ cover for the penultimate issue.
The cover to The Immortal Hulk #49, illustrated by Alex Ross, features Bruce Banner stepping back into the Green Door. The Door has acted as a way back to the land of the living for gamma-mutated creatures and connects to the Below-Place. The official synopsis for Immortal Hulk #49 teases “plenty of surprises” in store for Bruce Banner and his various Hulk personas before the finale.

“It’s finally time to admit it – Immortal Hulk is reaching the end of the story we set out to tell,” Immortal Hulk writer Al Ewing said. “Issue #49 brings jade-jaws to the gates of the abyss and a final accounting of his life – in time for a last issue you’ll have to experience to believe.”
The Immortal Hulk has been one of Marvel’s most popular titles, reinvigorating the Hulk mythos with a hefty dose of horror. The series will also give birth to the Gamma Flight miniseries in June, comprised of Banner’s gamma-powered friends and allies who banded together to stop him. Ewing will co-write Gamma Flight with Crystal Frasier, who provided consultation on early issues of Immortal Hulk, and Lan Medina will provide artwork.
Written by Al Ewing and illustrated by Joe Bennett, Immortal Hulk #49 goes on sale on Aug. 4 from Marvel Comics.
