5 Marvel Characters Who Should Come Back To Life (& 5 Who Should Stay Dead)

Characters often die in comics. But most of the time, they come back to life. Some in a few months, and some in few years or even decades. A famous example of a long-time dead Marvel character who came back to life is Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier.

This reinvention and revitalization of the character lead to him becoming a fan favorite, having a reoccurring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his own solo comic series, and being one of Marvel’s most recognizable characters. However, there are still some characters who are still no longer alive who have the opportunity to make it big, and others should stay dead for various reasons.

10 Come Back To Life: Maria Trovaya Deserves To Meet Her Daughter

Maria Trovaya

Maria Trovaya is one of the most obscure characters in the Marvel Universe. She was first introduced in Tales to Astonish Volume 1 #44 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Ernest Hart. She was Hank Pym’s first wife and the mother of Nadia van Dyne.

She allegedly died after giving birth to Nadia but this has not been shown on the page. Bringing Maria back would be interesting, as she could meet her daughter and form a relationship with her.

9 Stay Dead: Bringing Mar-Vell Back Would Cheapen His Legacy

Mar-Vell

Mar-Vell was the first person to go by the name Captain Marvel. He is also the father of the heroes Phyla-Vell, Genis-Vell, and Hulkling. Mar-Vell died from cancer, and that arc was one of most heartbreaking and moving stories in Marvel Comics history.

Many fans were upset the times he was brought back temporarily, and for good reason. Besides, Mar-Vell’s legacy is being honored by his three children, and Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel perfectly.

8 Come Back To Life: Rita DeMara Deserves A Chance At Growth

Rita DeMara

Rita DeMara is a villain who was the person to use the alias Yellowjacket after Hank Pym. She later went on to join the Guardians of the Galaxy. Unfortunately, it was revealed she died off-panel sometime after that. Rita did return during Chaos War but died again during that event.

Bringing Rita back would give her the opportunity to grow more as a character, and give the Pym Particle users of the Marvel Universe another ally, or foe.

7 Stay Dead: No One Is Thirsting For Another Hank Pym Redemption Arc

Hank Pym

Hank Pym is a very controversial character. He has been written as a domestic abuser and created one of the worst villains in the Marvel Universe, Ultron. There have been attempts to reinvent his character and give him somewhat of a redemption arc, but fans just can’t seem to get behind the character.

Currently, Hank Pym is all but dead after fusing with Ultron after an intense battle.  Now that we have Nadia to carry on Pym’s legacy, there is no real reason to bring back this character.

6 Come Back To Life: Madelyn Pryor Would Thrive On Mutant Island

Madelyn Pryor

Madelyn Pryor is an X-Men villain who recently passed away. Despite most mutants being allowed to be resurrected, Madelyn has been excluded because of the fact she is a clone of Jean Grey. Many were opposed to this, such as Alex Summers and Gabby Kinney.

This rule is one of the many that does not make sense about Krakoa, and Madelyn is a character who deserves another chance and would thrive on the mutant island.

5 Stay Dead: Cletus Kasady- Somebody Else Deserves The Change To Be Carnage’s Host

Cletus Kasady

Cletus Kasady is the most frequent host of the symbiote known as Carnage. He has been the star of many plotlines and storylines, including the recent Absolute Carnage arc, where he met his demise. Over the years, many new characters that are symbiote hosts have been introduced.

It would be a nice change to have these characters, such as Andi Benton, take the spotlight. Having Cletus stay dead would also give another character have an arc as the Carnage symbiote host.

4 Come Back To Life: Bill Foster Is Gaining Popularity

Bill Foster

Bill Foster, aka Goliath, was a casualty of the superhero Civil War.  He was a scientist who was a friend of Hank Pym, and used Pym Particles to grow to about twenty-five feet. Since his passing, his nephew Thomas Foster has taken on the mantle of Goliath.

However, he is hardly used in recent comics. With more people knowing about Bill due to his appearance in the film Ant-Man and The Wasp, now would be a perfect time to reestablish his character in the Marvel comics universe.

3 Stay Dead: Uncle Ben’s Resurrection Would Cheapen Many Spider-Man Stories

Uncle Ben

Uncle Ben had one of the most meaningful and impactful deaths in all of comic book history. It inspired Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, to be the hero he is today. His memory lives on with the quote “With great power comes great responsibility” as well.

Bringing back Uncle Ben permanently would make many stories involving Spider-Man feel less impactful, or completely lose all meaning. This is a character that should only be alive in alternate realities, and even that’s debatable.

2 Come Back To Life: Gwen Stacy Did Not Deserve Such An Abrupt And Tragic Death

Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy is one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe. For many years, she was simply just considered Spider-Man’s dead ex-girlfriend, but that has changed in recent years. It started when Emma Stone’s portrayal of Gwen in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, and even more so when the character Spider-Gwen, Gwen Stacy from Earth-65, was created.

While it’s great a version of the character is back in comics, the original deserves to be brought back and have a meaningful arc as well.

1 Stay Dead: Karen Page- There Are Far More Interesting And Well-Written Characters To Explore

Karen Page

Karen Page was a longtime love interest of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. She is most well known for her death at the hands of the villain Bullseye, in Daredevil Volume 2 #5, by Kevin Smith, Joe Quesada, and Jimmy Palmiotti.

Like most female characters created in the earlier years at Marvel, Karen received quite a bit of bad writing, even until the very end.  Since then, new characters, like Kirsten McDuffie have been introduced and are worth investing in.
