Throughout the Dragon Ball series, one constant complaint that fans constantly vocalize is the fact that many times it feels like “the Goku show” instead of giving the other characters their deserved attention and development. This has resulted in there being many forgotten characters who fans wish would more attention instead of being left behind whenever something major comes up.
Funny enough, one of those characters who needed more camera time was Vegeta, and Dragon Ball Super absolutely delivered in that respect. Instead of being the secondary character and rival to the protagonist, this time around, Vegeta feels like the co-star of the series right alongside Goku. However, that doesn’t stop the constant feeling of regression of his character from making him seem like a worse main character than his rival.
10 When He Made The Same Mistake He Always Does Against Jiren
One common joke that Dragon Ball fans constantly sling around is the fact that Vegeta is always doing the same things over and over throughout the many different series of the anime and manga. Much to the dismay of Vegeta fans everywhere, they have a point that was backed up during the Tournament of Power arc of Dragon Ball Super.
Vegeta made the big mistake of doing a big speech about how strong he was and used his strongest technique against the arc’s big boss, Jiren. The Final Flash attack Vegeta let loose against the hero of Universe 11 left him unscathed and resulted in Vegeta taking a lot of damage along with his big step back to a similar situation against Perfect Form Cell.
9 When He Kept Going Back To The Sidelines Against Frieza
When one thinks of anime main characters, no one thinks of them being stuck on the side while someone else fights their battle for them. Sadly, this ended up happening during Dragon Ball Super‘s Resurrection F arc.
During the big battle against Frieza and his new form, Vegeta would step in to talk or throw a punch before going back to the bench to watch Goku fight instead. This happened multiple times and actually got quite dull until Vegeta finally jumped in and finally took over the battle after getting bored of Goku and his incompetence.
8 When He Talked So Much That He Let Frieza Destroy Earth
Despite Vegeta being built up to be the big victor during the Resurrection F arc, he still ends up taking the big fall thanks to another mistake he’s constantly made throughout his time in the Dragon Ball franchise.
During Vegeta’s fight with Golden Frieza, he actually was on top without having any difficulty laying the beatdown on the space tyrant. In the end, Frieza was at the Saiyan Prince’s mercy. Vegeta almost finished him off with a final blast, but thanks to his long monologue and gloating, Frieza had time to trash all his efforts and use his Earth Breaker technique and destroy the planet along with Vegeta, making him the victor.
7 When One Of His Victories Was Overshadowed By Goku
After Frieza destroyed the planet along with Vegeta, all seemed lost. However, thanks to Beerus’s Angel assistant, Whis, the fighters of Earth survived and were given a second chance once he reversed time with his “Temporal Do-Over” technique.
Once Goku and his crew returned to the time when Vegeta was monologing to Frieza, Goku sprung into action and got the kill on Frieza in Vegeta’s place before Frieza could destroy the planet.
6 When He Was Reduced To A Battery For Goku
Vegeta had quite a bit of time to shine in the Moro arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga alongside his partner, Goku. However, in the end, he was back to being the sidekick, thrown to the sidelines once again to make sure Goku defeats the final boss of the arc.
Moro grew to nearly undefeatable levels, and it was up to Goku to deliver the finishing blow. Vegeta returned to the battlefield and was asked to send his energy to Goku to allow him to finish the battle. His energy wasn’t enough, but thankfully Uub’s was.
5 When He Quickly Lost To Hit
Hit is one of the newest breakout characters coming from Dragon Ball Super, earning himself a spot next to Goku as his newest rival. His introduction against Vegeta showed he was an immediate force to be reckoned with in the Universe 7 saga.
Despite Vegeta always being the more calculated fighter between him and Goku, he stood absolutely no chance against Hit. During their fight, he wasn’t able to touch Hit even once and was defeated without effort. Goku on the other hand immediately caught on to Hit’s abilities.
4 When His Fight Against Beerus Resulted In Nothing
One highlighted moment that Dragon Ball fans bring up many times is Vegeta’s awakened anger toward Beerus once he lays a hand on his wife, Bulma.
Vegeta finally stops cowering and goes in immediately, unleashing a flurry of attacks on the God of Destruction. While seemingly impressive, not a single one of these attacks hurt Beerus, much to the dismay of Vegeta.
3 When He Pulled Another “Broly Moment” Against Beerus
Of course, before he went out to actually fight against Beerus, Vegeta had another moment that mirrored his role in the Dragon Ball film, Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan.
For most of the time in the film, Vegeta is sent to the sidelines, cowering for his life and unable to fight even when the rest of the weaker Z-Fighters, including his son, jump in to attempt to save the planet. It takes an attack on his wife for him to finally jump in.
2 When He Fell Behind Goku Once Again
If there’s one thing that Dragon Ball fans will always hold over the Saiyan Prince’s head, it’s the fact that he can’t seem to catch up and stay caught up in terms of power with his rival.
Throughout Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta continuously catches up with Goku only to get left behind once again due to Goku’s superior fighting sense. It seems that in the latest arc, Vegeta realized he has to train differently, which might take him to his next level.
1 When He Went Back To His Old Ways
Another thing that Dragon Ball fans always make fun of Vegeta for is the fact that he will grow past his old ways only to go right back and go through the same character progression once again.
Many times Vegeta finally admits that Goku is the strongest of the two only to revert back and race to the top with him once again. This at times could be quite repetitive.
