Spider-Man has a small circle of friends and allies he trusts when the chips are down, but few of these allies have been by his side longer than Black Cat.
Over the past few months, Spider-Man has gone to Black Cat more than once. He called her once again to help in his race to save Boomerang from Kingpin’s assembled crime lords. Before going to ask the New Avengers for help in the fight, Spider-Man had a job for Felicia Hardy.

Spider-Man gathered his allies for the fight while Kingpin was on his way to capture the last Lifeline Tablet piece. He transported his tablet pieces into an armored truck, but a new member of his team named Doctor Carey questioned this move. She said it was dangerous to take them into a “potential war zone.” Kingpin said he was dangerous as well, but Doctor Carey was right. Rather, Felicia Hardy was right, as Kingpin went back to his truck and found both Doctor Carey and his tablet pieces gone, stolen by Black Cat.
Things didn’t work out well for Spider-Man, even with Black Cat’s help. She took the pieces to Spider-Man and then left to meet at the rendezvous. That is when Spider-Man got the last piece, only for Boomerang to betray his friend. Boomerang worked for Kingpin the entire time, proving everyone was right about Boomerang. Black Cat realized something was wrong and went back to save Spider-Man, who she found unconscious. While Spider-Man overestimated Boomerang in this situation, he knows he can always count on Black Cat to care in a way that few of his allies do.
Black Cat and Spider-Man have a complicated relationship. The two will do anything for each other, even if Black Cat is not always honest. In Spider-Man’s recent war with Kindred, Black Cat robbed Doctor Strange for the wall-crawler. In Amazing Spider-Man #51.LR, Black Cat went into the Sanctum Santorum and stole the Hand of Vishanti. This allowed Spider-Man to travel to the astral realm after Strange refused to help him. Black Cat also worked with Strange to help Spider-Man after she realized things might go wrong. Black Cat proved her worth in the end when she helped save Doctor Strange during the King in Black battle with Knull.
While Spider-Man’s faith in Boomerang backfired on him, Black Cat has always proved her loyalty to Spider-Man, even if she isn’t always entirely honest or law-abiding.
