WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Mayans M.C. Season 3, Episode 10, “Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write,” which aired Tuesday on FX.
Originally introduced in Sons of Anarchy Season 4, Assistant District Attorney Lincoln Potter was one of the fiercest foes that SAMCRO faced, as he came remarkably close to bringing the club down for good. And while he appeared in the first two seasons of Mayans M.C. to work against the Santo Padre Mayans and the Galindo Cartel, Potter has been conspicuously absent from Season 3, with an early episode having explained that he was put on leave. Now, in the Mayans M.C. Season 3 finale, “Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write,” Potter makes his return in a big way.

Over the course of Mayans M.C. Season 3, Luisa “Adelita” Espina’s plot has been something of a slowburn. After her group — Los Olvidados — freed her from American custody, she went to see Angel Reyes to reveal that their son died after she gave birth. From there, Adelita seized control of Los Olvidados once again and used the group to assassinate Governor Palomo, whom Luisa believed would clean up Mexico. Then, Luisa turned control of the group over to Mini, dubbing her the new Adelita.
In “Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write,” Lincoln Potter calls Miguel Galindo from a beach and explains that the Galindo Cartel has been, essentially, framed for the death of Palomo. Potter then tells Galindo that the gangster’s assets are about to be seized and gives him a heads-up about the federal agents about to invade his compound. For his part, Potter is really just trying to keep things interesting.
Afterwards, Mayans M.C. shows Potter with his family. He then goes out to the market to get avocados and wine. However, when he returns, Potter finds Adelita waiting for him. Earlier in the episode, Adelita had gone to government agent and former Potter ally Anna Linares, who was sent into virtual exile after blowing the whistle on the unscrupulous ADA.
Adelita indicates that she’s not going to harm Potter’s family, as she has no intention of repeating the same violence that the Galindo Cartel inflicted upon her, but it’s clear she wants to murder Potter for everything that he’s done. However, the ADA uses his last piece of leverage against Adelita: Her son is actually alive. Initially, Adelita is in disbelief, likely remembering that Linares told her not to trust anything Potter said, but the ADA makes clear that, if she harms him or his family, she’ll never see her son again.
How the confrontation between Adelita and Potter ends isn’t made clear in the Mayans M.C. Season 3 finale. However, there’s a good chance that Adelita isn’t going to kill Potter. Her son’s death was a major motivator in going out on her quest for vengeance, so Adelita is likely to at least figure out whether or not Potter is telling the truth. However, if Potter isn’t lying, then things are definitely going to get complicated, as Angel is engaged to Nails, and the two are expecting a child. As such, Mayans M.C. Season 4 is very likely to make that relationship a lot more difficult.
Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans M.C. stars J.D. Pardo as EZ Reyes, Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes, Sarah Bolger as Emily Galindo, Michael Irby as Obispo “Bishop” Losa, Carla Baratta as Luisa “Adelita” Espina, Richard Cabral as Johnny “Coco” Cruz, Raoul Trujillo as Che “Taza” Romero, Danny Pino as Miguel Galindo, Edward James Olmos as Felipe Reyes and Emilio Rivera as Marcus Álvarez. Season 3 is available now on Hulu. Mayans M.C. Season 4 will release in 2022.
