Black Widow Character Posters Still Don’t Reveal Who Plays Taskmaster

New character posters for Black Widow show off the film’s costumes but still hide some secrets.

Marvel Studios released a new set of posters for this summer’s Black Widow, putting the spotlight on Natasha’s allies and her main enemy. There are new looks at Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow herself, along with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz’s Melina Vostokoff and O-T Fagbenle’s Mason. The final poster belongs to Taskmaster but omits the actor’s name. Check them out below:

Every poster but the one for Taskmaster features the name of the actor playing the part, proving Marvel is keen to keep things a mystery until the movie arrives. Given the secrecy, it seems clear the identity reveal will be a major twist in the film, so naturally, theories have popped up across fandom. One leading theory is that Fagbenle’s Mason is actually Taskmaster. These posters are the first time we’ve seen the actor/character properly highlighted in the film, and he certainly looks like the odd one out given his civilian attire. Furthermore, Mason doesn’t appear to have any real comic book connections, though some have suspected he’s a minor character named Rick Mason. We also know that Mason and Natasha will have a romance together, making his potential reveal as Taskmaster a major twist to be sure.

Another noteworthy thing about the posters is that we finally see the gold accents from Black Widow’s comic book costume on display in the MCU. And not just on Natasha, as Melina will be wearing an identical uniform in the film, perhaps suggesting this is the original Black Widow suit that the graduates of the Red Room were given.
