It’s surprising to see the level of ambivalence that continues to surround Dragon Ball GT. Akira Toriyama’s iconic shonen series remains one of the most popular and successful examples of its kind, but the creative choices within Dragon Ball GT have been met with a lot of criticism. Dragon Ball Super has functioned as a modern continuation of Dragon Ball Z’s story that ostensibly pushes Dragon Ball GT and its decisions further out of the spotlight.
One of the brighter spots from Dragon Ball GT is its exploration of the character Uub. Uub never becomes as important as Goku, but he still serves his purpose. Dragon Ball GT features plenty of thrilling battles, but some of them would have even more appeal if Uub were involved.
10 Lord Yao & His Minions Would Be Great Practice For Uub’s Powers
Dragon Ball GT: A Hero’s Legacy is set 100 years in the future and focuses on Goku Jr., Goku’s distant descendant. Goku Jr.’s biggest challenge is Lord Yao, a gruff demonic boar with shapeshifting abilities, as well as his trio of henchmen, Susha, Mamba, and Torgo. The young Saiyan defeats them, but the creativity behind these enemies would be more exciting for Uub. It’s possible that Uub is somehow still alive at this point in the future and it’d be interesting to see him use his own transformation powers on Yao and turn him into something against his will.
9 Ledgic Has The Style & Skills To Be A Great Adversary To Uub
Ledgic is a determined alien mercenary that operates as Don Kee’s bodyguard and benefits from a unique character design and a giant spear, which makes for a creative and deadly weapon. Ledgic often gets overlooked since he’s from Dragon Ball GT’s earlier and lighter entries, but he’s the foe in Goku’s first big one-on-one fight in the series. Uub doesn’t go on the “Grand Tour” with Goku, Pan, and Trunks, but if he had, he’d make for a fascinating opponent for this crafty alien. Ledgic vows revenge, so his return could have also been a great opportunity for Uub to step in.
8 Uub Could Try To Eliminate Black Smoke Shenron Before His Damage Begins
Dragon Ball GT receives its share of criticism and its final arc, the Shadow Dragon Saga, seems to either work for audiences or completely fail to connect. The concept of selfish Dragon Ball wishes becoming weaponized into tangible threats remains a fascinating idea.
Black Smoke Shenron isn’t actually an opponent, but instead a dark source of exposition that then splits into the seven different Shadow Dragons. It wouldn’t have been difficult to have Uub try to initially take out this threat, only to fail and for the division process to then occur. It generates greater suspense.
7 Luud Is A Mechanical Tyrant Who’d Be A Great Early Opportunity For Uub To Shine
Luud is a major entity during the beginning of Dragon Ball GT who’s revered by other smaller antagonists like Mutchy Mutchy, Rilldo, and Dolltaki. Luud is revered like a God, but he’s actually an enormous robotic machine. Luud temporarily consumes Pan, and her combined efforts with Goku result in Luud’s destruction. Luud could have marked an early debut from Uub who swoops in to save the day and remains with the team for the rest of their galactic journey. Goku teases Uub’s strength early on, but this is an occasion where he could practically put it to use.
6 Uub’s Defeat Of Nappa Could Further Signify The Passing Of The Torch Over From Goku
A very playful dilemma in Dragon Ball GT occurs when Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu open the gates of hell to pull off their villainous Super 17 scheme. A cavalcade of old villains appear, including one of Dragon Ball Z’s earliest enemies, Nappa. It’s cathartic for Vegeta to once again act as Nappa’s conqueror, but it’d also be a lot of fun for Uub to get a stab at this vintage Dragon Ball villain. Perhaps Nappa even recognizes Goku’s fighting style in Uub’s attacks and becomes petrified over the idea that Goku’s influence continues to live on.
5 Oceanus Shenron’s Backstory Resonates More Deeply With Uub’s Values
Oceanus Shenron is an interesting anomaly out of the seven Shadow Dragons for a number of reasons. She’s the only female member of the group and she actually benefits from two elemental powers, both wind and water. Oceanus Shenron is introduced by tricking a small fishing village into praising her as a sea princess.
It feels as if Uub would take much more exception toward her manipulation of a generous community, since his own origins are associated with a community that isn’t dissimilar. There’d be higher emotional stakes if they were the ones who battled.
4 It’d Be Highly Satisfying For Uub To Take Out Frieza’s Extended Family
The disastrous jailbreak from hell that occurs in Dragon Ball GT returns in an excess of previously defeated enemies. Uub participates in the elimination of these nuisances and defeats Saibamen and General Rilldo, but there are also classic Red Ribbon Army members, most of the Ginyu Force, and various Buu Saga figures like Pui Pui and Yakon on the loose. Cooler and King Cold are among the chaos and these are two individuals who are worthy of a more extensive fight against Uub. They’d be especially humiliated to learn that they’ve been taken out by one of Goku’s students.
3 Cardinal Mutchy Mutchy Is A Fascinating Foe Who’s Too Quickly Finished
Cardinal Mutchy Mutchy is another eccentric villain from Dragon Ball GT’s initial episodes. Mutchy Mutchy has a lot of potential as an antagonist since he actively seeks out the Black Star Dragon Balls for his own sinister purposes, but his intimidating whips can also turn people into dolls, which are then sacrificed to Luud. Mutchy Mutchy has a highly undignified end where a minor energy attack from Trunks takes him out. It’s a rushed conclusion, and a proper showdown where Uub gets to save the day, or maybe even gets temporarily turned into a doll, would be more exciting.
2 Uub Could Face Off Against A Major Dragon Ball Z Villain With Cell
Another unfortunate side effect of the chaos that’s caused by Super 17’s break out from hell is that Cell and Frieza get another chance to spread destruction. It’s actually interesting to learn that Cell has formed some kind of friendship with Frieza, and they’ve developed tandem attacks together. Their return is satisfying, but it’s regressive to have Goku take them out again. A more interesting development is to allow Uub to conquer these threats for the first time and demonstrate why Buu was a stronger villain than them.
1 Nuova Shenron Packs Immense Power & Is The Perfect Opponent For Uub Before The End
Dragon Ball GT doesn’t exclude Uub entirely from the Shadow Dragon Saga, and he’s able to lend a hand against Syn Shenron and Omega Shenron, but Nuova Shenron is another grueling opponent who would have added more variety to the anime’s arc if Uub were allowed to participate instead of Goku and Vegeta. Nuova Shenron doesn’t stoop to transformations or other flashy tactics and is all about the fundamentals, which is also in line with Uub’s fighting strategy. Nuova might be more powerful than Uub, but he ultimately gets taken out by Syn Shenron, so his strength isn’t an issue.
