Without the Avengers, Ultron would have destroyed the human race many times over. The mad automaton is smart and powerful enough to make short work of just about any other team he encounters but the Avengers have always stopped him before he destroyed all life on Earth.

The Avengers have taken the lead in defending the Earth from just about every threat. Some of these threats aren’t just the run-of-the-mill supervillains. There have been plenty of times when the Avengers have faced down threats that have threatened all of time and space, from the Time Keepers to Thanos to the Beyonders.
The Avengers have worked hard to make sure that there is still a universe for the Earth to exist in, keeping things going so the sun can rise upon the Earth one more day.

Without the Avengers’ intervention, the Earth would have been conquered many times over, enslaved by some villain of the week. The team has faced down the worst of worst and won, keeping the world safe for yet another day. It doesn’t matter what the threat is, the Avengers are there to stop it.

Captain America is the most important member of the Avengers. Sure, Thor is more powerful and Iron Man is richer, but Captain America is the standard-bearer, the one hero who inspires all others. Cap’s clout has made the Avengers into what they are today- without his strategic planning and command skills, the Avengers would have surely been destroyed many times over.
Before Cap, the Avengers were just heroes but after him, they became stars. His presence elevated them, making them into the greatest assemblage of heroes ever. Without him, they still would have been important but Cap made them special. On top of that, the number of times he saved the world on his own is uncountable. By finding him in the ice, the Avengers did the world a favor.
