Attack On Titan: All 9 Titan Users, Ranked By Likability | CBR

The nine titan users are among the most important characters in the Attack On Titan universe. Each of their powers has a role to play in the story, especially during their increasingly frequent clashes near the narrative’s conclusion.

It is important to remember that the giants aren’t merely wanton forces of destruction – they are being controlled by humans with their own unique motives and personalities. By identifying the most likable shifters of the series, we can better assess their distinct qualities and how their personalities have guided their decisions for better or worse.

9 Annie Leonhart Was Abrasive & Misanthropic

Annie Leonhart was one of the Marleyan agents dispatched to infiltrate Paradis. Unlike her comrades, she made no effort to ingratiate herself with the Scouts regardless of the suspicion it would cast on her.

She wasn’t any more hospitable to Reiner or Bertholdt during the moments of respite they had together, with most of her encounters being terse and brief. The woman’s only endearing relationship was with Armin Arlert, who ironically would manipulate her trust and expose her as the Female Titan.

8 Lara Was Content With Profiting From A Lie

The Tybur family lived a life of luxury under the false premise that they helped to defeat the Eldians and sequester them to the island of Paradis. Willy only revealed the truth regarding the role Karl Fritz played in the end of the titans’ conquest shortly before his death.

Lara condoned her family’s willful denial of the truth through her silence, enabling the suffering of everyone in the internment zone by proxy. Worse yet, she was never able to explain her actions or reasoning on account of how quickly Eren Yeager killed her after being introduced.

7 Porco Was Loyal To Both Marley & His Comrades

Porco was the Jaw Titan and a man whose ambition was to provide for his family. He shared Marcel’s dream of becoming a warrior and sought to honor him after his death by assuming the mantle.

He was remarkably loyal to his allies and willing to risk life and limb for their safety. He attacked Eren in Marley in an attempt to rescue Lara and again in Paradis on behalf of Pieck. However, Porco’s fealty to the Marleyan state makes it difficult to empathize with him.

6 Frieda Facilitated The Oppressive Will Of Karl Fritz

Frieda Reiss Attack on Titan

Frieda Reiss was the wielder of the Founding Titan and a pawn of Karl Fritz’s will. She continued his legacy of repressing and altering the memories of the Eldians as an act of penance for atrocities many of them had never committed.

However, she had little say in the matter – Frieda was only accepting her responsibilities as a member of the royal family and did not fully understand the magnitude of what it portended. From what few interactions the woman had with Historia during the future queen’s childhood, she was compassionate during her abbreviated life.

5 Zeke Persevered Through Incredible Suffering & Sought To End Conflict Painlessly

The plight of Zeke Yeager was remarkably poignant; when he revealed to Tom Ksaver that his parents were plotting a rebellion, he was told by the only man who treated him like a son that he had to report his parents for his own safety since their plan was doomed to fail.

Ever since, he sought to end the Eldians’ persecution by sterilizing the entire race with the Founding Titan. Though profoundly misguided, the endgame behind his agenda was selfless; he only wanted to close the cycle of hatred between his people and the rest of the world.

4 Reiner Was Emotionally Devastated By His Own Betrayal

Having ingratiated himself among the Scouts, Reiner’s eventual betrayal caused an enormous psychological strain on his mind. Between the people he was forced to turn against and the comrades he failed to save, Braun nearly took his own life after returning to Marley.

After standing up to Eren and saving Porco’s life, Reiner realized that he still had purpose. Though hopelessly indoctrinated by the state, the armor user has an ossified set of morals and unwavering sense of loyalty to his friends and family that have not wavered despite his traumatizing experiences.

3 Eren Began As Sympathetic But Lost His Way

Eren Joins The Meeting

Initially, Eren Yeager met most of the criteria for an endearing anime protagonist. Though he was notably more cantankerous than many of his heroic peers, his actions were usually moral and in the direct interest of his comrades (such as when he attempted to save them from Annie Leonhart in the forest).

However, consistent tragedies have hardened the Attack Titan user’s heart, driving him to become mad with power and to turn against the same people he had once called his friends.

2 Pieck Was Disillusioned With Marley But Still Risked Herself To Save Gabi

Pieck infiltrated Paradis in order to save Gabi and herald the Marleyans’ counterattack. After it was revealed that the Cart Titan never intended to betray her masters, she conveyed to her young accomplice that much of what she said was still true.

She balances the loyalty of the other warriors (such as Reiner and Porco) with the foresight to realize that Marley does not operate in the Eldians’ best interest. Additionally, Pieck only became a warrior to provide for her ailing father, making it even easier to sympathize with her plight.

1 Armin Suffered Just As Much As Eren Without Losing His Way

Armin and Eren experienced the same horrors, being survivors of the attack on Shiganshina. They fought in almost an equal number of battles, with Armin’s intelligence facilitating their success in more than once instance.

Despite this, Armin has not become a monster like his former compatriot and kept his heart guarded from all the destruction around him. Even after Gabi was revealed to be a Marleyan spy who killed Eldian soldiers, he acknowledged that she was simply misguided and did not seek brutal retribution unlike many of his comrades.
