Marvel’s Youngest Heroes Are About to Face a GIGANTIC New Threat

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Champions #6 by Eve L. Ewing, Luciano Vecchio, Federico Blee & VC’s Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

In Marvel’s Champions, we’re seeing the next generation of heroes, as well as young villains rising. Outlawed, in particular, painted a dystopian picture with Kamala’s Law placing teens on the run, with the government and Roxxon trying to subjugate them via the C.R.A.D.L.E. task force and reformation camps in what essentially felt like Civil War again.

This left Ironheart, Miles Morales and Co. scared as they couldn’t trust their country, as well as other heroes-turned-traitors, anymore. But while the law’s now on hold and the team’s back together, Issue #6 isn’t painting a picture of optimism as they’re now about to face a familiar, gigantic threat moving forward.

This is in the form of André Sims, the young scientist who worked for Arno Stark at Stark Unlimited during his evil Iron Man phase, and a genius who Riri Williams knows can make their lives hell. Roxxon hires him as part of their PR campaign to show they’re making things right after the camps, as they want to push a new app called “Roxx On.” It’s about self-care, connecting to the youth and giving them all they want in the digital space.

However, the boss in charge, Miriam, doesn’t want Sims on board due to the baggage he brings after hijacking Stark tech and almost causing another robot apocalypse. But he wins her over at the research and development lab, unveiling a titan of a bot that looks like a mix between the X-Men’s Sentinel and Ultron.

It’s a scary sight but Miriam is in awe. Sims is brilliant when it comes to A.I., having come over from M.I.T., and he’s also almost taken out Riri’s A.I. in N.A.T.A.L.I.E., so the Champions know how deadly and destructive he can be. What’s much more intimidating is he has a wealth of info on Stark’s Iron Men, as well as Riri’s Ironheart, so he can easily integrate and produce Marvel’s most lethal bot.

Miriam could even use this as a scare tactic to sway teens to her because she wants to manipulate the masses to buy into Roxxon’s rehabilitation vision. Many are falling for the app, but the likes of Snowguard are leading a revolution, after all. Thus, by seeding out this bot or an army to inflict teens with fear, only for Roxxon to be their place of comfort, feels right up Miriam’s alley right now.

And with Sims working the minds of younger folk, we can see the plan coming to fruition. However, after the media conference, so it’ll definitely be a case of revenge when both sides clash as Riri wants to settle their grudge.
