10 Star Wars Villains Who Aren’t That Scary | CBR

The Star Wars universe is defined through its many thrilling and sinister villains. From brutal, marauding Sith warlords to calculating, diabolical emperors, there is no shortage of serious threats for the heroes to contend with. Oftentimes, the protagonists must sacrifice significantly before a semblance of victory can be achieved.

However, many villains are either not as intimidating as their appearance suggests or are completely incompetent altogether. Through identifying the least scary individuals of the series’ cinematic universe, we can better contrast the story’s most merited antagonists against those who’ve posed an inconsequential challenge.

10 Hux Was Bombastic, Visceral, & Incompetent

General Hux lead the First Order’s military efforts and was partially responsible for the Starkiller base’s detonation against dozens of planets. However, his organization suffered heavily under his leadership, especially given his lack of impulse control.

Further, he could not compartmentalize Kylo Ren’s behavior, nor corral it as effectively as his spiritual predecessor, Tarkin. Consequently, he would betray his own faction order to satisfy his petty grudge against his master for choking and humiliating him in public. Hux’s death would follow shortly after, with his treachery uncovered by his constituents.

9 Kylo Ren Was Unmasked & Humiliated In The First Movie

Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren was humiliated in the first movie, having been unmasked and put at the mercy of Rey. This severely compromised his credibility as an antagonist, even if he would technically defeat her during their rematch in The Rise Of Skywalker.

Most of his feats throughout the first movie were inconsequential. He stormed a village ill-equipped to defend against him and slew his own father in an act of stunning betrayal. His embarrassment at the hand of Luke Skywalker at the conclusion of The Last Jedi also boded poorly for his intelligence and merit.

8 Jango Fett Was Killed Shortly After His Introduction

Jango-Fett

At first, it seemed as if Jango Fett would provide a credible and unique villain for the heroes to face. He was the genetic template by which the clone army was produced and a skilled Mandalorian bounty hunter.

However, he seldom had an opportunity to prove his worth. After narrowly escaping Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was executed at the battle for Geonisis by Mace Windu. His death was almost comically instantaneous, with his son clutching his severed head for a traumatic moment that would change his life forever.

7 Crumb Was Annoying & Inconsequential

Salacious B. Crumb Star Wars

Salacious B. Crumb was a tiny alien who accompanied Jabba the Hutt in his palace. He served little purpose other than to laugh alongside his master’s cruel jokes and at the expense of the heroes.

The gremlin did not pose a threat to Skywalker’s group or impede them in any meaningful way during the battle for the palace. When the heroes’ reckoning was at hand, Crumb attacked C-390, only for his efforts to be staunched by R2-D2. Considering the astromech’s own limited abilities, this illustrated how weak the giggling alien actually was.

6 Sebulba Couldn’t Win Even Though He Cheated

Sebulba was the pod-racing nemesis of Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace. Before the competition began, he ensured his rival’s vehicle was sabotaged to optimize his already favorable odds.

Despite his age, experience, and superior craft, Anakin industriously managed to defeat the alien and earn his freedom from Watto in the process. Subsequently, Sebulba’s only viable skill— his racing affinity— can be disregarded, rendering him an obsolete antagonist with no plausible way of holding back the heroes from their objectives.

5 Boba Fett Was Defeated Almost Instantly

Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi

Though Boba Fett’s legacy would be expanded upon in other Star Wars media, his performance in the original trilogy was lackluster. The mercenary accomplished virtually nothing, mostly serving as a prop to illustrate Vader and Jabba’s political power.

When the heroes mounted their daring escape from the Sarlacc Pit, they damaged his jetpack, causing him to spiral out of control and plummet to his presumed demise. It was an unceremonious and embarrassing way to conclude his presence in the cinematic universe.

4 Phasma Wasn’t As Scary As She Looked

Initially, it seemed as if Captain Phasma would succeed as a viable gun-slinging antagonist where Jango and Boba did not. She was a ruthless commander of the First Order and supposedly more competent than the soldiers she led.

However, the woman was forced into a trash compactor by the heroes shortly after they began their foray into the Starkiller base. Considering that Fin only served a single combat mission up until that point (which he abandoned), Phasma’s reputation as a formidable foe was irrevocably tarnished, much like how Kylo Ren’s had been shortly after.

3 Jabba Relied On Henchmen & Was Powerless By Himself

Jabba the Hutt was a criminal kingpin who acquired a vast fortune through his illicit activities. Through intelligence and cunning, he nearly killed Luke Skywalker through his battle with the Rancor (and again by attempting to feed him to a Sarlacc).

In spite of these close encounters, Jabba himself is just as impotent as his corpulent physique suggests. Leia was able to kill him in seconds using her own slave chain by strangulating the alien’s bloated throat. Without bounty hunters at his beck and call, the Hutt is helpless.

2 Greedo Was Killed Almost Immediately After Being Introduced

Greedo was a bounty hunter assigned to collect on smuggler Han Solo. Their tense meeting in a cantina resulted in an exchange of blaster fire. Though there is contention about who shot first, the result remains the same: The alien died, whereas his target was unscathed.

Given how little of a chance he had to showcase his abilities and the disappointing arsenal of tools at his disposal (especially for a bounty hunter), it is difficult to take Greedo as a serious threat. Should he have contended with Luke or Ben, they would have cut him down as expediently as a standard stormtrooper.

1 Krennic Lost Everything In The Battle For Scarif

Krennic was the director of advanced weapons research for the Empire and a man who controlled much of the operations on Scarif. Despite its status as an Imperial Stronghold and a military garrison for trained soldiers, Jyn Erso and the other rebels were able to cause catastrophic damage to the base.

The Director himself would die amidst their raid, forced to watch as much of his life’s work was being destroyed before his very eyes. Like Hux, he failed to corral Darth Vader’s pugnacious disposition and was physically abused by him during their meeting.
