At the end of Avengers: Endgame, an elderly Steve Rogers passed off his shield to Sam Wilson/Falcon, making clear he wanted that hero to serve as the next Captain America. However, much of Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier dealt with Sam’s reticence to take up the mantle, as well as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier finding his place in a post-Endgame world. And while Sam and Bucky both reference Steve on several occasions, he never actually appears on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In this video, we’re going to go into why Steve might just have passed away, which is why he didn’t appear.
One piece of evidence we have for Steve’s passing has to do with his age. In terms of his age, Steve is probably around 103 years old at the time of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While Steve is certainly powerful thanks to the Super Soldier Serum, his advanced age makes his passing entirely possible.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it’s not totally clear just what shape the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take. While there’s a good indication the characters that Disney acquired from 21st Century Fox will soon arrive, there’s not much solid information on just when or how that might happen. Right now, there are a lot of potential directions the MCU could go in the future, though exactly which one it will take remains to be seen.
