The powers that were trapped grew a conscience of their own, and once released, it possessed Hoopa and took out its rage on the surrounding area.

This magic corrupted his personality, warping him into an evil person who became obsessed with reviving Zeref.

Devimon had the ability to control the movements of the Black Gears that existed within the Digital World. When the gears came into contact with any Digimon, the Digimon would be impossible to calm down as it attacked both friend and foe alike.

Even some of the strongest Digimon were not immune to becoming insane as an effect of the gears. As long as they were possessed, these Digimon were forced to do whatever Devimon ordered them to.
