FATWS: 10 Characters Who Deserve The Shield Over John Walker

It may not look like it but it’s not easy to find a replacement for Captain America. It takes more than some super-soldier serum and a shield to make someone worthy.

As proven in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, John Walker is not fit to carry the shield despite his military background. Along with possessing tremendous fighting skills, they need to have a good heart. Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson are two of the best candidates that could take up the mantle but there are ten other characters in the MCU that are also worthy.

10 Sharon Carter Should Carry the Family Legacy

If the United States government wanted to honor the legacy of Captain America, then why not give the mantle to Peggy’s niece, Sharon? She already has the S.H.I.E.L.D. training and she knew Steve Rogers on a professional and intimate level.

Not only that but Falcon and the Winter Soldier has already demonstrated her astonishing combat experience in Madripoor. If the government can forgive Steve and Bucky for all that they’ve done, they can do the same for Sharon. All she needs is some practice throwing the shield and a pardon.

9 Clint Barton Knows How to Take Aim

He may be getting up there in years and choosing a successor, but Clint Barton could take up the shield at least for a little while. He’s already a well-known Avenger who people can trust to do the right thing.

His aim is impeccable so it shouldn’t be a problem for him to switch from arrows to a shield. If his relationship with Wanda indicates anything, is that he is willing to break the rules to help those in need and can inspire others to do what’s right. If nothing else, he would see it as an opportunity to make up for his time spent as Ronin.

8 Misty Knight Knows What Real Threats Need To Be Stopped

Compared to the other characters from the Netflix series, Misty Knight doesn’t get the credit she deserves. She was a determined cop who defied her superiors to pursue the real criminals that were ravaging Harlem. It’s that kind of attitude that knows what real problem she should be working on instead of being told who to go after.

As for abilities, she is an impeccable investigator that would be essential for tracking down criminals and a bionic arm that enhances her strength. If that doesn’t make her qualified to be Captain America, it at least makes her fit to be the next Winter Soldier.

7 Jimmy Woo Has Proven Himself in Westview

Out of all the theories people made about WandaVision, none of them could have predicted Jimmy Woo’s return or how much fans enjoyed watching him team up with Darcy and Monica. While he may not be the most skilled fighter, he is a cunning CIA agent that shows more respect for the law than most Avengers.

He is a professional that can be trusted to do his job respectfully without letting all the glory go to his head. Plus, he is just a charming, friendly person that people can’t help but appreciate.  He’s come a long way since Ant-Man and the Wasp and that’s not just referring to his close-up magic tricks.

6 Claire Temple Has Worked With Defenders and Fought the Hand

One of the key qualities to being Captain America is having compassion for your fellow man and going above and beyond to save them. That sums up Claire Temple to a tee when looking over all that she’s done across various Netflix shows. Despite some hesitance, she’s attended to every Defender when they had nowhere else to go for medical attention and gave them a place to hide.

Colleen Wing has already given her enough training to take on the Hand but with some more training, she could hold her own in a proper fight. Or do what she does best and make sure the rest of her team doesn’t die.

5 Scott Lang Is Wild Card But A Good Man

As hard as it would be to take Scott Lang seriously as Captain America, there is no denying he is qualified. For starters, his shrinking abilities would make him perfect for espionage and infiltration missions. Even without the suit, he is a skilled thief and MIT graduate that knows how to adapt and improvise in tough situations like when he first stole Hank Pym’s suit.

More importantly, he has great people skills and is great with kids. Who wouldn’t feel safe when Paul Rudd is carrying the shield?

4 Hope Van Dyne Is Already Skilled in Espionage

For those who don’t think Scott is fit for the job, there’s always Hope Van Dyne. Similar to Scott, she can use shrinking to her advantage with the addition of her suit’s wings to help with aerial combat.

It’s also obvious that she has more combat expertise than Scott especially when it comes to hand-to-hand combat and experience going undercover to stop Darren Cross. Most importantly, she can be trusted to take her job seriously and make sure that the Pym particles don’t wind up in the wrong hands. Assuming her dad is willing to share them with the government.

3 Everett Ross Has Good Relations With Wakanda

Not to be confused with General Thunderbolt Ross, Everett Ross is a CIA agent known for helping T’Challa take back the throne in Black Panther. Even though he’s out of his element, he’s proved he possesses incredible skills.

As a pilot, he was quick to learn how to fly a Wakandan aircraft and as a spy, he came close to catching Klaue before it was compromised by Okoye. Just like Steve, he is a good soldier that isn’t afraid to help out those in need. It also helps that he has good relations with Wakandan royalty.

2 Luke Cage Is Better Than Any Super Soldier

Luke Cage Relatability

Although he prefers to stick to protecting Harlem, Luke Cage could make a big difference if he became the next Captain America. Much like Steve, Luke also came from humble origins and has experience standing up for the oppressed.  Anyone from Harlem can vouch that he is a man of the people and he’s already a super soldier in his own right.

Given that his skin is bullet-proof, he won’t need a shield when he goes into battle and his super-strength surpasses Steve and Bucky’s. The only setback he faces is making sure he doesn’t throw the shield so hard it slices enemies in two.

1 Monica Rambeau Is A Captain Aliens Would Approve Of

The whole world knows that aliens exist and as such, they need someone who is on good terms with extraterrestrials. Someone like Monica Rambeau, who already has a good reputation working for S.W.O.R.D. Her interactions with Wanda have shown that she knows how to de-escalate situations and puts people first before the mission.

While she hasn’t jumped on any grenades, she used her body to shield Tommy and Billy when Tyler Hayward tried shooting them. It also helps that unlike some people on this list, she is an actual captain.
