10 Marvel Villains Iron Man Can Actually Defeat Without Armor

The essence of Tony Stark is his Iron Man armor. It’s flashy, it’s powerful, and it’s helped establish him as one of the premier characters in the Marvel Universe. Without his armor, however, how well would he actually be able to hold off against the various villains in the Marvel universe?

Despite initial beliefs, Tony has proven to be resilient, brilliant, and physically capable of handling himself against some of the most deadly of Marvel foes. Although he might not be able to fight the more traditional Iron Man villains like Mandarin, the Crimson Dynamo, the Iron Monger, and Fin Fang Foom without his armor, he would still be able to defeat some notable and familiar names in the Marvel world.

10 Toad’s Abilities Aren’t That Strong And Tony Could Blind Him Or Cut Off His Tongue

Toad from the X-Men comics Collage

Mortimer Toynbee, or the Toad, is a mutant who was originally a villain in the X-Men titles, appearing frequently as a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Indicative of his name, Toad’s abilities resemble that of an actual toad. He can leap great lengths, has hypersensitive infrared vision, acidic saliva, and his tongue is strong and long enough to crush objects.

Fortunately for Tony, Toad is not an intelligent mutant and certain flaws of his powers can be exploited. Tony could easily defeat Toad, given he manages to avoid the tongue and acid spit, by either cutting off his tongue entirely or blinding him somehow. With enough dodging, a sword, and a bright flashlight, Tony could easily defeat the Toad.

9 Matador Is Just A Guy With A Sword; Tony Could Beat Him If He Utilizes His Environment

Matador from the Daredevil comics

Matador, or Manuel Eloganto, first appeared as a Daredevil villain in Daredevil #5. In keeping to his name, Matador is an expert swordsman. Though not possessing any special powers, Matador is in peak physical condition and is, therefore, both quick and extremely agile.

Stark is a smart guy and could defeat the Matador using his environment;  Since Matador isn’t superhuman, Tony would just have to rely on what’s around him, using makeshift shields and weapons, and his athleticism to defeat Matador.

8 If William Stryker Turns Into A Demon Then Stark Could Just Call The Avengers

Mutant Hating William Stryker from the X-Men comics

The notorious mutant hating supervillain made his first appearance in the graphic novel X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills. Throughout his history, he was first a man, then cyborg, and then a demon. In any of his incarnations, Tony would be able to defeat him. As a human, Tony could invite Stryker to his tower and engage in the old fashion fistfight, in which Tony would definitely win.

As a cyborg, Tony would be smart enough to develop some type of virus or weapon that could be used against him. And if Stryker were a demon, Tony could call a super team like the Avengers. Tony isn’t a mutant and so he wouldn’t have a vendetta against Stryker, but if needed, he could defeat him, indirectly through his team, without resorting to his armor.

7 Stark Is A Better Inventor Than Spencer Smythe

Spider-Slayer Inventor, Spencer Smythe, from Spider-Man Comics

Spencer Smythe, introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #25, was an inventor who designed robots and machines, called Spider-Slayers, to take down Spider-Man. Though not a superhuman, he was extremely intelligent, continually developing new tech, and even managed to create the original Molten Man.

As smart as Smythe may be, he is no match for Stark. Stark is not only smarter but a more ingenious inventor than Smythe, building his first armor in a cave under duress. In a scenario where both inventors are pitted against one another, Tony prevails, developing tech that would outshine whatever Smythe developed. Being one of the top minds of the Marvel universe, Smythe is not a threat to Stark.

6 Stark Could Use His Tech And Wits To Defeat Jigsaw

Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Punisher villain Jigsaw from comics

Jigsaw, or Billy Russo, debuted in a Spider-Man comic, but soon became a Daredevil villain and then ultimately Punisher’s arch-nemesis. Jigsaw doesn’t have any powers, but is essentially an amped-up version of the Punisher; he is an excellent tactician, expert marksman, and a master at hand-to-hand combat.

If Jigsaw ever went up against Tony Stark, Stark would have to battle for his life but would ultimately come out on top, if ever so slightly.  Punisher has a hard time with Jigsaw, so Tony would have to rely almost solely on his tech and wits to help him through the fight. Tony knows how to protect himself and with enough tech and weapons to back him up, like a blaster of some sorts, he could defeat Jigsaw.

5 Hydro-Man Is Deadly, But Has Many Exploitable Faults

Marvel Villain, Hydro-Man, from the Spider-Man comics

Morris Bench became Hydro-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man #212. His abilities are exactly like what they sound like; he can turn part of himself, or all of himself, into liquid. In this liquid form, he has super strength and can presumably drown people.

As dangerous as he is, he does have a few glaring weaknesses, one being that he can be frozen. As long as Tony stays somewhere far from any water, or liquids in general, and can develop a type of hydrophilic device or freeze ray of sorts, he would win against Hydro-Man. Hydro-Man has many faults, so as long as Tony can stay safe and take advantage of these weaknesses, he should have no problem defeating him.

4 It Doesn’t Take A Lot To Defeat Spot

Spot fighting Spider-Man from Marvel Comics

Spot, or Johnathon Ohnn, has the ability to make small portals. The spots on his skin act as little warps that can transport things. He can also move the spots around or take them off his body.

In Daredevil #1 by Mark Waid, Daredevil easily apprehends Spot by jumping into his portal and tying him up with his Billy Clubs. Tony could actually do the same. As long as Stark is aware of his surroundings, looking out for midair punches, Stark could use a very long rope to tie Spot up. Otherwise, Stark could use Spot’s portals against him and deplete his teleporters, likely using one of his many devices.

3 Having Faced His Fears Before, Stark Could Resist Mister Fear’s Toxins

Daredevil Villain, Mister Fear, from Marvel Comics

Mr. Fear is Marvel’s version of the Scarecrow; his fear gas secretes pheromones that invoke certain chemical responses in the body, thereby causing fear. Unlike in the MCU, Tony Stark in the comics is not without his flaws. He was an alcoholic, a narcissist, and created many of his own villains. In this instance, it works to his advantage.

He’s dealt with his problems.  In the scenario that he gets sprayed with the toxin, Stark would be able to resist the emotions. He’s proven to be in control of his mind and body and his willpower would overcome his fear.

2 Stark Wouldn’t Be Fooled By The Chameleon

Marvel Villain Chameleon

Dmitri Smerdyakov is a master of disguises who cosplays as different heroes in the Marvel universe. Besides replacing people, he doesn’t really do much else. As devious as Stark is, he knows and understands the people around him. He knows their traits and he knows how they act.

If Chameleon were to replace James Rhodes or someone in his personal circle then Stark would quickly realize. His equipment would also warn him if this were to ever happen, rendering Chameleon a futile opponent in the battle against armor-less Iron Man.

1 Stark Could Deplete The Kingpin Of His Resources And Of His Influences

The Kingpin from Marvel Comics

Stark is a big player in the Marvel universe, having been head of SHIELD at one point and head of Stark Industries. He has a lot of money and a lot of resources. If used correctly, he would be able to take over Hell’s Kitchen and drain Fisk of his influence and power there.

Stark could buy out any businesses that works with Fisk while also employing super-powered sleeper agents in Fisk’s inner circle. Setting up a base of operations in Hell’s Kitchen, Stark would give Kingpin a run for his money, without having to result to fighting, and therefore his armor.
