How Fast & Furious: Spy Racers Sets Up Season 5 | CBR

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 4 of Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, streaming now on Netflix.

The fourth season of Fast & Furious: Spy Racers brings Tony Toretto and his friends south of the border. Cisco Renaldo reunited with his lucha librador uncle Tuco only to be framed for an international incident along with their intelligence agency handler Ms. Nowhere. Stripped of their usual resources and on the run from the law, the crew has to clear their names in Mexico as they face off against a new villain named Moray and question the meaning of family once again. And by the end of Season 4, with their good names restored, the crew has plenty of roads to explore in future seasons, even bigger and better than before.

One of the major characters introduced in Fast & Furious: Spy Racer‘s Season 4 is the bounty hunter Palindrome, portrayed by the Big Show. Carrying a storied reputation for being the best in the business, Nowhere was impressed that a worthy opponent was tasked with tracking her and the crew down. Nowhere’s usual assistants, Gary and Julius, are quickly taken under Palindrome’s wing and see him as a mentor figure, especially compared to how dismissively Nowhere often treats them. Palindrome stays connected to the team after joining forces to defeat Moray together and tentatively strikes up a romance with Nowhere, much to Gary and Julius’ surprise.

In Spy Racers, love is in the air for more than just Nowhere and Palindrome. Layla and Tony had a falling out while on the run, with Layla suspecting Tuco of framing his nephew and friends, while Tony could never fathom that a family would betray itself. The final battle nearly killed Tony as he endured the full brunt of a volcano, saved only by his advanced exosuit. Tony’s near-death revealed how much Layla truly cared for him. The two nearly share a kiss following the climactic showdown, only for her to good-naturedly tease him, leaving the possibility of a full-fledged romance in future seasons.

Then there’s the matter of the villains. Season 4 begins with Rafaela Moreno, one of the major antagonists from Seasons 2 and 3, apprehended once again after leading Tony and the crew on a pursuit spanning the entire globe. And while Rafaela and Moray are defeated over the course of Season 4, one of the biggest loose ends from the end of Season 3 remains unresolved: Cleve Kelso. The villainous businessman mysteriously disappeared in Season 3’s climactic battle in the Sahara Desert and remains unaccounted for throughout Season 4, making the possibility to return with a vengeance in the future a distinct one.

From burgeoning romances to major new characters like Uncle Tuco and Palindrome, Spy Racers keeps growing bigger in scope and possibility with each season. The whole world is open to new, high-octane adventures. Even though the crew’s names have been cleared, there are old and recent enemies that are virtually guaranteed to return and threaten the world once again with only Tony Toretto and his friends standing in their way to total global domination.

Executive produced by Vin Diesel, Neal H. Moritz, Chris Morgan, Tim Hedrick and Bret Haaland, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers stars Tyler Posey, Camille Ramsey, Luke Youngblood, Charlet Chung and Jorge Diaz. All three seasons are available to stream now on Netflix. Season 4 premieres on April 16.
