Anime atrocities are usually committed by villains and profoundly impact the future of the story. Whether they are severely harming heroes, murdering the innocent, or razing entire cities, there is no limit to the degree of depravity that many dastardly characters inflicted upon the world around them.
Bizarrely, the actions many characters have taken were forgiven by their counterparts regardless of the harm that was caused because of them. Through identifying the heinous crimes that should never have been overlooked, we can better understand that forgiveness is not always a positive quality in certain circumstances.
10 The Knights Of Liones Overlooked Belialuin’s Destruction (Seven Deadly Sins)
Belialuin was the home of Merlin that was destroyed by the Supreme Deity and Demon King after she refused to pledge their allegiance to either of them. The sorceress was the only survivor of the casualties, illustrating the wrath that the gods were willing to inflict on mortals.
When Ludociel arrived in Liones to pledge the Archangels’ support against the Ten Commandments, they were met with minimal scrutiny despite the history of his master. His few detractors were quickly silenced by the power of Fraudulent Light – which also failed to be criticized.
9 Lucci’s Murder Of Five Hundred Captives Was Overlooked By The World Government (One Piece)
In Lucci’s earlier years, he was responsible for saving a foreign nation from marauding pirates on behalf of the World Government. He willingly allowed himself to be captured so that he could be escorted to the hostages – wherein he promptly murdered all five hundred of them with his bare hands.
His reasoning was that they did not deserve to be alive since they were weak. Despite this flagrant act of barbarism, his masters would not penalize him for his actions.
8 Danzo Was Allowed To Stay In The Leaf After Forcing The Uchiha Genocide (Naruto)
Though the Uchiha Clan was partially to blame for their own downfall since they actively plotted against their Senju neighbors, Danzo ensured that any other solution would become impossible. His Foundation members ambushed and assassinated Shisui, the only young man capable of preventing violence from breaking out.
This forced Itachi’s hand in slaughtering his own people since it would otherwise start a global war. While Sarutobi reprimanded Shimura for his actions, he was not banished from the village and continued to operate his cabal from the shadows.
7 Eren Himself Justified The Attack On Shiganshina (Attack On Titan)
When Eren and Reiner finally had a chance to converse for the first time since Bertholdt’s capture, the former told the Marleyan agent that he forgave him and understood why he destroyed his home. This was much to Braun’s surprise, especially given his adversary’s typically vindictive personality.
His suspicions were not ill-founded. While Eren condoned the morality of his actions in Paradis, this was merely to justify his own atrocity through his attack on Reiner’s people. While many military personnel were injured in the raid, civilians and even children were put equally at risk.
6 Mayuri Performed Human Experiments On The Quincy (Bleach)
Mayuri was easily the most sadistic member of the Gotei Squads, surpassing even Kenpachi in his apathy toward human life. He performed experiments on unwilling Quincies, including Soken Ishida.
Since then, Kurotsuchi has displayed no remorse for his actions, promising to visit a similar fate on Orihime and Uryu after they had breached the Soul Society as enemies. This behavior was condoned by his allies since he was the leader of the research and development institute.
5 The Ishvallans Don’t Hold A Grudge Against Amestris After Everything They’ve Done (Fullmetal Alchemist)
The Ishvallans suffered significantly under the thumb of Amestris and the State Alchemists’ Central Command. In addition to being subjected to a bloody conflict, a civil war was also meticulously engineered to divide their people.
While Amestris would lend to their restoration efforts after Bradley was disposed of, not even Scar (the most vindictive of the survivors) maintained a grudge. This was in spite of the fact that the alchemists’ atrocities had culled almost their entire race.
4 Satsuki Kiryuin Built A Deliberately Oppressive Society For Optimized Results (Kill La Kill)
Honnoji Academy was more than merely a school; it was the bedrock upon which Satsuki Kiryuin’s society was built. The success of its students determined the prosperity (and class) of their families, providing a corrupt and seemingly inefficient system.
It was also the only to brace for Ragyo’s impending life fiber invasion. However, she avoided excoriation for her actions even after the threat had passed and never openly apologized for how Honnoji was structured.
3 Kurapika Let Chrollo Live After The Phantom Troupe Massacred His People (Hunter X Hunter)
Initially, Kurapika’s quest to take Chrollo’s life was well-founded. The man had not only committed genocide on his people but also demonstrated no remorse for his actions – or plans to let up from future villainy.
Inexplicably, Gon and Killua were able to convince him to spare Lucilfer’s life under the nen condition that he could no longer lead his organization. Because of his mercy, the rest of the Phantom Troupe was given a second chance to scour the globe and find someone that can lift their leader’s affliction.
2 Rohan Kishibe Kidnapped & Ultimately Planned To Kill Koichi (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
When Koichi entered Rohan’s residence, the manga artist used Heaven’s Door to determine if he was a worthy muse. What he found provided perfect inspiration for his next work, compelling him to force Hirose’s return every day.
He would gradually rip out “pages” from Koichi’s body, reducing his weight and overall health. Unconcerned with the student’s safety, the artist was only thwarted through the timely intervention of Josuke and Okuyasu. Despite Rohan’s flagrant apathy for Koichi’s life and the atrocities he visited against him, the student was unusually forgiving.
1 Kurono Romanticized Child Abuse (Fire Force)
Kurono was the Hajima agent responsible for overseeing Nataku’s development. This often led to personal “training sessions,” ones that would inevitably result in the Sixth Pillar’s beating and humiliation.
Oddly, this was something that Nataku would later learn to embrace considering that his defeat spelled the end of what impossible expectations his parents placed on him. Regardless, Kurono’s actions are hardly the “help” that the young boy needs and will only serve to create much more severe issues for him during his journey into adulthood.
