Mayans M.C.: Santo Padre Kicks Off a Massive Civil War With Stockton

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Mayans M.C. Season 3, Episode 6, “You Can’t Pray a Lie,” which aired Tuesday on FX.

At the end of Mayans M.C.‘s previous episode, EZ Reyes was shot by a Stockton Mayan named Flaco in a surprise attack when he was trying to bring Gaby home from his father’s place. The latest episode of the series, “You Can’t Pray a Lie,” deals with the aftermath of that event, which results in a civil war erupting between the between the Santo Padre Mayans and the Stockton Mayans.

While EZ does lose a lot of blood as a result of being shot, he recovers quickly enough that he’s able to head out of town with Gaby to lie low as Bishop figures out what to do about the attack. Flaco, though, is in much worse shape following the confrontation and needs to stay in hospital longer. However, Angel — who wants to get revenge against the Stockton M.C. — finds himself stopped by both Santo Padre President Bishop and Nestor, who on orders from Mayans Godfather Álvarez is standing guard to prevent a retributive attack.

This results in a confrontation between Bishop and Álvarez at the Santo Padre clubhouse. Álvarez reveals to Bishop that he knows the latter lied about bringing in heroin from Mexico so as to assuage the other branches of the Mayans, who have been breathing down the Santo Padre President’s neck since the border shutdown devastated their business. Bishop soon expresses his anger at Álvarez not appreciating all that he’s sacrificed to grow the Mayans, but the godfather doesn’t have any of what he’s saying. Instead, Álvarez makes clear that he won’t broke Bishop stirring things up.

As “You Can’t Pray a Lie” goes on, Bishop has a nasty confrontation with his ex, Antonia Pena, after they visit a marker dedicated to their deceased son, Aidan. Bishop has come to blame living in Santo Padre for the problems in his life, and Álvarez is the person who made him move to the small bordertown. Following the confrontation, Bishop — who has clearly had too much to drink — tells Angel to go ahead with his plans to attack the Stockton Mayans once Flaco is out of the hospital.

Along with another Santo Padre Mayan, Angel chases down Flaco and one his compatriots and shoots them while they’re driving, killing both of them immediately. However, Nestor sees the entire event, making clear that Bishop won’t be able to hide what happened from Álvarez and that, as a text to EZ at the end of the episode reveals, Santo Padre is going to war with Stockton.
