Charmed: Macy FINALLY Befriends Jordan | CBR

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Charmed Season 3, Episode 9, “No Hablo Brujeria,” which aired Sunday on The CW.

Even though The Charmed Ones have known about Maggie’s crush on Jordan forever, the sisters haven’t spent much time with him one-on-one. Macy, especially, hasn’t really interacted with Jordan outside of a magical mission — well, except the time she punched him in the nose during a boxing lesson to steal his ring and determine if he was evil or not.

Well, Charmed‘s latest episode sticks the two together inside a memory spell that cannot be broken without Macy diving into Jordan’s past fears and learning what struggles they share.

At the start of the episode, Macy isn’t thrilled to see Jordan arrive at their house as she just learned that Harry will need to spend more time with Abby to help translate a demonic language that’ll bring them closer to finding a cure for their magic allergy. Also, her mind is still on what happened with the Shea Group and becomes quickly annoyed when Jordan — forgetting about The Charmed Ones’ magic allergy — gets too close and zaps her.

Although Jordan asks Macy if she’s ok, she lies and says she wishes that everyone would just stop asking her if she’s ok. Before Jordan can reply, the two are confronted by a hooded intruder — who turns out to be the sisters’ estranged second-cousin — that shoots a spell at them. Jordan jumps in front of Macy, effectively shielding her from the memory spell, which sends them both into his buried memories of fear.

Inside the spell, Macy helps Jordan confront all sorts of specters that still haunt Jordan — from his biggest regret from his time serving in Afghanistan to his repressed rage against the Witchfinder General for causing so many young men in his family to die. Ultimately, Jordan finds the “key” of these memories and unlocks them from the spell. Through their time trapped together, Macy pushes Jordan to allow himself to feel angry. And Jordan pushes Macy to let someone in when she’s struggling.

After the two escape the spell, they share some tequila on The Charmed Ones’ doorstep. Both take turns opening up about their experiences of racism and the unfair pressure of being Black in America — particularly the expectation that they have “to be exceptional,” while also not being allowed to show strong feelings after mistreatment for fear of being seen as troublesome. The heart-to-heart allows Macy some much-needed time to vent with someone who truly understands her struggle and to finally call Jordan a friend she trusts.

Charmed stars Sarah Jeffery, Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, Rupert Evans, Jordan Donica, Poppy Drayton, Mareya Salazar and JJ Hawkins. New episodes air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
